I think blind musicians use their “mind’s eye” to visualise where the keys are in the same way touch typists can write without looking down at the keyboard.

Am I dreaming right now? This is not talent or a gift. This is something else, something only Derek can do and no one else can tag or study or name or describe. What is happening here is above all, beyond, out of reach. God Bless you Derek, you absolutely beautiful person.

RivieraByBuick You can't even imagine how a blind person hears sounds, notes! They "see" with their ears and hands, because they have developed those senses in a way we can't even think about. This guy has an almost impossible sense of music perfectly playing what he hears just once. How can you say he doesn't feel it? Watch a few other videos, he gets emotions from notes like you and me get them from a wonderful painting or monument. Keep it up Derek, in this century of mass-music you are one of the rare exceptions!!
@RivieraByBuick
@RivieraByBuick 9 жыл бұрын
uzituchi for me, as for professional musician which have seen a lot, this is just an average children musical school level (in my country at least). i see that he is "different" from most people, but the fact he has health issues does not make me raise him among others. i try to be objective.

Lots of tweaks in his version, and he even takes out a bit of the "Hungarian Rhapsody" from the famous "Cat Concerto" episode from Tom and Jerry cartoons. I love his feeling and excitement of this most-beloved of all Liszt pieces since his "3rd Liebestraum". He even knew part of the standard cadenza that is often played before the famous Prestissimo finale in the "Frisk" version of the Rhapsody. Great job, Derek!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Perfect pitch? no doubt. Many people believe, myself included, that the highly specialized instrumental music from the common era are the product of composers with varied degrees of autism. Only that way to explain the high degree of concentration and memorization it demands. You're in good company, Bach was blind in his last days, Beethoven was deaf but had perfect pitch. Keep it up.

What those few are missing is that Derek does *covers* of the classical pieces. He jazzez them up and adds his own touch stealing them a bit (in a good way) and making them his own in a way. Derek reminds me of that legendary scene from the Forman's "Amadeus", where Mozart bursts into the room and pimps up the composition that Salieri composed as a gift for the Keiser, just after hearing it once from the next room behind closed doors. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5TMd4eGlLCFr5Y

What an absolute treat to stumble on this site and be privy to few others that have had the chance to listen and watch this talent ! GENIUS can't describe the gift. I would have to wonder if ,unsighted, maybe better ? NOT a chance. I would bet he could gather the honey from the local hive before playing Fight of the bumblebee ! Thank you Derek and may your God given talent ever exist ! As a youngster, I passed by a church in the soaking rain returning from my Karate class. There was a person playing Toccata in D minor Fugue by J.S.Bach and I sat there in awe of the moment and being treated to a heavenly experience. That moment will never be effaced from my mind .
