Lang Lang has played the extended Horowitz version before. The transition at 1:43 was almost certainly intended to save time. We've all heard the 2nd Hungarian Rhapsody... the audience doesn't want to waste a quarter of an hour listening to Horowitz's interpretation. These people ain't looking to hear the full 10-12 min version of this piece, they looking to hear some cool classical-style music. You don't want to try to cram a full classical performance into a music festival. Btw the people clapping midway through is completely inappropriate in a formal classical setting. That was not a formal classical setting.

I don't like this performance. But this is not a formal concert anyways. That's what I like about Lang Lang. He can be world-class pianist when the audience includes lovers and masters who knows and appreciates classical music. But he could also be a great entertainer when the audience are just average Joe's and just wants to see "cool" techniques and piano banging. And from their clapping during the performance, I believe the latter case is true here. That, in my opinion, is the definition of a great performer. He always makes his audience happy.

I’ve been a classical pianist and organist for more than a century. I hope your comment about it being short and ‘easy’ was meant to ONLY listen to, and NOT to PLAY!? It’s definitely not an easy piece to play, although Lang Lang can always make an easy piece sound difficult, and a difficult piece sound easy! The reason why it appears to be ‘short’ in the length of time it took was bc of it being an ‘abbreviated’ version of the complete one composed. IF you like L. L.’s style, he does a beautiful rendition of ‘Fur Elise’ (which I’d consider as a ‘beginner’s’ piece to learn and not technically difficult like this), then I’d recommend watching his video of it. (But make sure you watch the one that’s on his channel, and not any one by an ‘amateur’ video taker.) I ❤ it - just as much as I do his more difficult ones - hope you do too!

The point of music is to express one’s feelings so don’t say it’s bad because it’s not the usual
