Hungarian football was good from 1930’s up until 1986 (Puskas and co. We’re from the late 1940s - 1956). But from 1986 until I’d say 2018 it was dead. There was the 2016 Euro which was good but then the best players retired and it wasn’t until Rossi took over that we have seen results. 2018 - 2021 we were decent but I think we became really good starting with the last Euro. Our style of play however became perfected right before these nations league when we tied England and beat Poland. These nations league games have just proven and confirmed that we have perfected our game and have a really good team again 👍🇭🇺

By the time they got back to looking confident, the damage was done. But Szoboszlai is only 21, Sallai is 25; infact there are a host of promising players who are in the 18-25 range. If they can continue to get the most out of them and grow them together; it's a side capable of causing many upsets. Szoboszlai inparticular should be snapped up by a bigger side. As long as the injuries don't prove too problematic; there is a hell of a player in there. But then RB Leipzig generally do know what they are doing when scouting top young players.

Don’t you think that this game has a lot of coincidence? It’s been exactly 102 years since the Treaty of Trianon was signed on June 4. The game occurred exactly 10 days after that anniversary, on June 14, where Hungary won against England, who was most likely one of the Allied Powers that supervised or even came up with the treaty itself. If that’s not coincidental enough, than maybe this is. Aside from all that, the Hungarian team scored four goals, possibly not even rigged at all, perhaps representing the four days in June leading up to the treaty’s official declaration and signature in 1920, *or* it could be representing the four main countries that Hungary had to end up giving significant land portions to: Czechoslovakia, Austria, Romania, and Yugoslavia. Had the Hungarian team scored 5 goals, the fifth would have been representing Poland, who got a tiny chunk of land above Czechoslovakia, but given that the Poles have a long standing friendship and brotherhood with the Hungarians, they probably were the only exception that was forgiven by the Hungarians. I’m sure that the 100 year “curse” might have already been lifted considering that it’s been 102 years since Trianon was signed, and this could be the start of something even bigger yet for Hungary. Perhaps God made that game end that specific way as a small speck of compensation for what was done to their historical borders, because they still haven’t forgotten about it either, considering that June 4 is a tragic day in Hungarian history. Anyone else notice that the last Hungarian player to score the 4th goal *in the final seconds of the game* praised the coat of arms on his player uniform? That’s patriotism, a significant form of it, perhaps he was unknowingly signifying that there is still hope that Hungary might become the greater kingdom it used to be once again.

England beat Germany 1-5. A few months later Germany won the World Cup in Brazil against Brazil. Aston Villa beat Liverpool last season 7-2. Liverpool then went on to win 2 cups and made the Champions League final and runners up by 1 point in the league. Football is not about individual results, it is about a trend. Can we stop hearing about 'fatigue' the opposition in those four games also played a full season. Hell half our own team didnt play more than 20 games this season they should have been as fresh as a daisy. Phillips 20 PL games, Stones 14! Whenever the generic 'long season' line get rolled out it basically is a cover for 'tactically inept' and Southgate setting his team up to fail with endless changes and a system that involves hitting short passes into the forwards which are then passed back to the defenders again - great for 65% possession terrible for actually creating decent chances.

The problem is they’ve always played like this, they’ve just scraped by so it’s gone unquestioned. In that World Cup they won 3/7 games. Tunisia (last minute winner), Panama and Sweden. In the Euros they scored 2 goals in the group stages, they cheated to beat Denmark in the semis, they bottled the final. Almost everything at home as well.

In hindsight, maybe England’s journey to the semi finals of the WC and finals to Italy were just pure luck, I mean, we just about beat Denmark in the semi’s of the euro’s anyway. I won't lie - back in 2018 I thought Gareth Southgate was a major reason why England got to the semi finals of the World Cup. I could see why he played the system he did, and I think it helped England maximise their potential. He just didn't have the players to do anything else. Just take a look at the squad that went to Russia - Jack Butland, Phil Jones, Fabian Delph, Jesse Lingard, Ashley Young, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Danny Welbeck - they ALL went! England were a very average side who happened to have a world-class striker. They were then what Poland are now, and were deservedly beaten by the only two good teams they faced. But since then we've seen the following players come though... Reece James, Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham, Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, Jadon Sancho. There are others too. Southgate's not maximising the England players' potential anymore. He hasn't even tried to adapt. The run to the Euros final was great, but it was clear that all it did was paper over the obvious cracks. His tactics are holding them back so much now that it's an utter miracle that Harry Kane has continued to score at the rate he has. I don't care that we're only five months from a World Cup - if the English FA actually want to have a shot of winning it all, I think Gareth Southgate needs to go right now.
