It's actually astounding how much stuff like tech practice that most levels of the game utilize hbox is just foreign too. In the least bm way possible, that's actually insane he stayed at top level on mindset alone. Would love to see him come back in full force proficient at many more defensive mechanics

You made it sound a lot worse than reality. He did practice frequently but he did it by doing solo practice and doing specific drills with crunch, and playing netplay (which he was the first god to really play a ton of netplay even before slippi) He didn't just pull stuff like his edge cancels out of nowhere. He just hadn't used Uncle Punch specifically to grind. But neither did M2K or Armada or Mango until Slippi era (M2K a little before that but he mostly used that for ledgedashing and just practices with Wizzy instead). Leffen was really the only one to use it who was a top 10 player until slippi came around.

It aint easy from going to the best for 2 years to getting beat by newer upcoming players. That's melee in a nutshell now because of Slippi. I wouldn't even say he's in a funk necessarily.. I think people are just better now. Also if I had to point to any excuse it would be that he doesn't have crunch as a coach anymore to help with adjustments.

Feel like HBox is stuck between two worlds The man's got one of the top Smash channels and Ultimate pays the bills, but his Dominion in Melee is what got him there. I think it's nigh impossible to stay relevant and competitive in both Ultimate and Melee, but here's hoping he finds his balance.

Playing Puff in Ult is honestly hurting him so much. We see a lot of his auto pilot habbits defaulting to Ult Puff things because that's what he is playing all the time.

I don't think it's necessarily the fact that he's playing another Smash game, it's that he's playing Puff in both games. I feel like people like M2K and Wizzy are able to play multiple smash games at a high level because they specifically don't use the same character between any of the games. It doesn't even matter if you main a top tier, Wizzy for example, was top 5 in Melee and 64 in 2019 and Melee Falcon and 64 Yoshi aren't top tier in their games. The biggest issue though is how much Puff is built into Hbox's brand. Him and Puff are synonymous at this point and him dropping Puff in Ultimate would feel weird. It really comes down to what he values more between results in Melee and content for Ultimate.

He has no intentions of being a top player in anything besides melee. He will eventually retire from that too and continue in other ventures

hbox needs a massive stream and ultimate detox, and spend some time with his old coach in the hyperbolic chamber. During this, he'll be reviewing multiple sets, practicing, breaking old habits, and *THEN* practicing *OFFSTREAM* against IBDW. Guaranteed he'll come out of that detox with different perspectives on melee and a better attitude towards it.

Those SDI's are impossible on the b0xx. You can't get 3 inputs there which is needed for most of these (at least the Puff rest and Falco shine). Frame1 can, but that's just another reason Frame1 should have the SDI nerfs from b0xx implemented.

It’s hard to be a melee player when it’s so practice intensive and the community changes the rules to nerf your character when you DO succeed. Ultimate pays better and has a more accepting community, it doesn’t make sense to stay.
