We were blown away by the time and effort that goes into making this delicious and popular Penang food.
We continued our street food tour in Penang, Malaysia, trying out the best street food in Penang, like oh-jian, the famous Penang asam laksa, and the popular and famous cendol. These street foods in Penang are so strong in flavour, we couldn’t believe how tasty everything was!

I'll be leaving US for PG in a few weeks... it'll be a foodie heaven on the cheap. Definitely try the mamak mee goreng, pasembur, nasi kandar and murtabak. And the varieties of nyonya kuih. Also the Chinese wanton mee, kuay chap and Penang version of chee cheong fun. Bon appetit. Oh, don't forget a nice cold sugarcane juice.

The noodles in assam laksa is called lai fun. The sourness mainly comes from the tamarind and even sour/unripe pineapples. Lemongrass is more give it a citrus fragrance/flavour not much of sourness. Lemongrass is a common ingredient in most of the curries and chili paste. That brown sugar is called gula melaka. It's actually different from palm sugar if you are to ask for it and buy it from shops. I miss Penang food! The popular stalls were soooo crowded last time. DId you try the chee cheong fun? In Penang, theirs are served with prawn paste. Also Penang rojak. Love Penang Char Kway Tiao, it is the best version.

Glad they've made it in Penang. 1st time I see Coconut Tart topped with Walnut Biscuit is a must try. Oyster pancake/omelette also one of Taiwanese famous street foods. Assam Laksa Steph had didn't had coconut milk in the broth. They finally got to my favorites Cendol that green jelly actually called pandan noodles and is refreshing dessert, and Char Kuey Teow of course and they also added green chive in there as well.

Mungbean sprouts n chinese chives are a must in char kuey tiow. I spell it 'tiow' instead of 'teow' as written locally for foreigners to pronounce it easily. Like i write for Americans 'wonton' instead of local 'wantan' to facilitate their pronouncing!

It is cucumber not zucchini in the Laksa..there is torch ginger, a kind of pink flower bud in the ginger family. There is usually fresh pineapple too. The noodles are different from regular rice noodles. It is glutinous rice noodles. No gluten as in wheat gluten..dunno why they call it that. But a different type of sticky rice.

Locals patronize the other stall. Much lesser queue & much better taste n quality.

From what we read and heard from those around, the one that we went to was the original, so we wanted to try that one out to see what it tasted like ;) Thanks for watching!

@@HungryTwoTravel It no longer " original" . Enjoy both n u will get to confirm. There is a saying, try what locals patronize because they know best. Hype & publicity is not equal to taste & quality. Nonetheless, taste is personal so long one enjoys it. Hope you enjoyed Penang! All the best to you in yr coming endeavours.

Mostly agreed on by all/most Msians Penang island IS the street food capital of Malaysia. Penang is also known as the Street Food Capital of the World. I too am Malaysian, a Penangite.
