Hunter Normally Open Mini-Clik Rain Sensor

Normally Open rain sensors must be used with controllers that have a normally open sensor terminal. You can determine if your controller is normally open by looking at the sensor terminal inside the controller and checking to see if there is a jumper wire between the terminal. A jumper wire will indicate that the controller is Normally Closed. No jumper wire will indicate the controller is Normally Open.

This rain sensor has three blue wires coming out of it. Two are connected to a 25 foot extension, and the third blue wire is the “normally open” lead of the switch and is used in open circuit installations. The remaining two extension wires are colored (one black, the other red).

hmmmmm... most microswitches , like the one they are using inside, have 3 terminals a common, one Normally Open and one Normally closed ...so you can just move a wire from N.O to N.C as needed.... I am thinking /hoping that's the entire difference in the two models.... if not very strange.

It could very well be a microswitch inside. It is factory set & sealed and is not programmable by the user in the field. Likely because 99% of modern irrigation controllers have normally closed output terminals. There were a few models back 20yrs ago that we normally open, but not any longer.

Hi @davidmerkrebs9967 - I'd like to confirm with you that you have this exact model rain sensor. The reason that I ask, is because this model (Normally Open) is not very common. Can you please confirm which model you have.
