@flamesfromblazer Yes very true you do need a certain amount of lead in an air rifles barrel to get it to shoot at its best, but if you get too much lead build up in the barrel you will start to loss accuracy like in some high powered air rifles. Plus pellets aren't made of pure lead anymore they have other metals like tin added to them to make them harder and less prone to damage.

@Montyfiable No thats ok just some people like to try and make things for themselfs, any way if i wanted to buy a pull through for an air rifle i'd have to order one from England as i live in Northern Ireland which would cost me £10 for post on top of the cost of the pull through, so i made one from what was at hand.

@SuperMrDwayne Yes the tank or reservoir on a pcp air rifle is made to be filled over and over again, but you have to fill it with DRY air only from ether a scuba tank the same as a deep sea diver uses or one of the hand pumps made for pumping up pcp air rifles. Not a compressor used to pump up car tires.

@TheLongrangeHunter You can use a pull through to clean any air rifles barrel weather its a pcp or spring powered break barrel or under lever, just make sure if you are using a spring gun to tie the barrel or cocking lever back so it doesn't close on your fingers.

@imunchyyy A simple spring powered brake barrel air rifle would a great place to start just so long as you make sure it has about 12ft/lb of energy for hunting like the AGS Value Max from Webley the BSA supersport etc.

@MrCauphy Yes i think that i have got a little less nervous about talking to the camera since i started. The fly fishing line was from Mullarkeys Direct and i used some gun cleaner from Napier.

@biggermanbomber Yes it could be easier, but if you try to tie a cleaning patch to the end of a cord you might not get the knot to pass up the bore in something as small as a .177cal.

@stu82pid I have never really used cleaning pellets before but i would suspect you might have problems when firing them through a gun with a silencer fitted like mine.

@spinosmen Yes i used to hunt with a dog but i found that it doesn't work with an air rifle so well as it does with a shotgun.

Well its really all in the video but your maybe putting too many twists into the fly line before removing the 25mm piece.

You could take it to be tuned at the likes of Sandwell Fieldsports or you could buy a tuning kit and do it yourself which will make the gun shoot much more smoothly and accurately but you can't take it above 12ft/lb in the UK without a licence.
@wiggsan
@wiggsan 7 жыл бұрын
Wow! 12 ft/lb?! That is terribly restrictive. I'm glad Hillary didn't make it to the presidency or we'd be looking at the same restrictions here in the US at some point in time....

Yet another fantastic DIY video!! I never thought of using fly line before but it makes perfect sense. I'll have to make me a few long ones for rifles and a short one for pistols. Thank you for sharing your ideas with us, I sincerely appreciate them.

I remember using an old military pull-through like this. But it had a weight that was made of brass that could be dropped down through the barrel. The brass is a softer metal that will not damage the rifleing inside the barrel.

Hello there. It's me again. I have a few questions. How did you search for the fly line? You said Leavings I think. How do you search for that (I am having a bit of a hard time finding any line.). As well, a video on how to use it would be nice as well. Do you use a cleaner? Thanks again. I have watched your videos from the first ones to the last one. The thing that I have noticed about you is that your delivery has improved a great deal. Keep up the good work!

Don't mean to be a Debby Downer, I digg the whole DIY thing, but why wouldn't you just buy a pull through? Cheaper and easier. Maybe wherever this guy lives it is hard to find a gun shop I guess.

Surely lead residue from pellets merely acts as a lubricant - unlike the powder residue from rifles/shotguns ammunition -so not really the same necessity to do this??

Thank you so much!! My husband just got an authentic .303 Lee-Enfield Bolt Action Rifle, and I ordered some Charger/Stripper Clips that comes with a Brass Weighted Pull Through. None of us knew what the pull through was for, but I guessed it must have had something to do with the barrel, due to the length of the rope, and the loop at the end. I honestly thought it might be for unjamming...LOL! Thanks for explaining, and the DIY...I learned a lot!

Made one of these for my tuner pcp, worked great, I invited a local forum member over for a sight-in/chrony session, needed to clean his bore and all he had was a rod. Used the one I made and gave it to him since he didnt have anything, that was one happy airgunner. I had to use 50lb fishing line, fly line is to hard to find locally.
