Air Rifle Hunting Decoying Crows In The Wind With The FX Crown And Slugs

I was asked by a farmer friend to help if i could reduce the number of crows and magpies on his land as he had started to put the sheep and lambs out into the fields.
This is all done on farm land that i have permission to do so on with legally held air rifles and is done in a legal and humane manner as not to prolong or glorify the death of the birds.
This can legally be done through the Department Of Agriculture, Environment And Rural Affairs Wildlife (Northern Ireland) Order 1985 (As Amended) Licence.
This Licence hereby authorises for the purpose of preventing the spread of disease and preventing serious damage to livestock, foodstuffs for livestock, crops, vegetables, fruit, growing timber and fisheries ANY AUTHORISED PERSON to kill or take any of the following birds:-
Crow, Jackdaw, Magpie, Pigeon (Wood), Pigeon (Feral), Rook, Sparrow (House), Starling.
Rifle FX Crown .22cal 30+ft/lb
Scope Bushnell Elite Tactical 2-16x42
H&N 21gr .218 slugs
Range Finder Bushnell Scout 1000
Tactacam 5.0 and FTS unit

Always great watching here.Maybe you can get some of those Patriot slugs in 22 cal and try them. They are better at expanding supposedly. Maybe try a 600 mm barrel on you Crown. Nice compromise length.

I have tried the 23grain Javelin slugs but find the 21grain H&N slugs more accurate and faster but yes a 600mm barrel might fix that.

As always very enjoyable and some good shooting. That blind you use what brand is it as I could do with something just like that. Having spinal problems I have trouble nowadays standing in one spot and if I could sit and shoot like that it would make life so much easier and pain free for me.

Yeah it was just one of those mornings, i really didn't think the crows were for landing but i got there in the end after a lot of patience. I was out after rabbits last night and i was amazed at how good those slugs were from 25 to 60 yards though i did hear the odd pass through and ricochet.

In the same theme as the nest, do you ever take one of the dead bids, like in this case the first magpie, and pose it as dead under the crow like the crow is about to dine on it? A crow, or even a competing species, about to get a meal could certainly draw an aggressive landing, no?

Hello Dave, hope you and yours are well. Would be interested to here your views on the banning of lead issue. As it stands I am looking at another rifle but wonder whether going for a .25 might ensure future lead free pellets better accuracy due to their larger mass. At sub 12ftlb longer ranges will go out of the window of course but most of my shooting is from a hide or ambushing rats so at closer ranges so that shouldn't be an issue. Enjoyed the video as ever and looking forword to your pending video on your other channel. Cheers hey.

Man its a big can of worms that one as non lead pellets just don't seem to have the same accuracy or consistency of the lead pellets and it might be the end of slugs as they seem to need the soft lead to expand properly. I guess at the minute they are trying to designed non lead pellets to shoot well out of air guns that are designed to shoot lead pellets, i think it will take a barrel manufacture to team up with a pellet manufacture to design a barrel with the right sort of rifling. twist rate and choke together with a non lead pellet that works together just as they had to do with slugs.

Hello mate great video again 🙂...could you give a young en a bit of advice please...i have an Artemis p15 that groups well i have a richter optik scope i zero my gun at 30yrds so its bang on but 2 days later i can't seem to hit anything so i check and its off zero again this is constantly happening is this normal should i be off zero so often or do you think new scope is needed

No this isn't normal so long as you haven't knocked the gun or scope. Usually i start with checking all the stock screws and scope mount screws are tight and there's nothing moving about, you could also try cleaning the barrel or even trying a different pellet and if you have one try shooting it over a chronograph to make sure its shooting consistently but if it still keeps losing zero I'd look at changing your scope, maybe something from the Hawke range.
