I was asked by a farmer earlier in the year if i could help with a bird problem as his crop of barley was nearly ready for harvest and the wood pigeons and corvids were hitting it hard so since this farm is usually shot over every Saturday by other shotgunners i decided to try decoying it in the evenings when it was quieter.
This is all done on farm land that i have permission to do so on with legally held air rifles and is done in a legal and humane manner as not to prolong or glorify the death of the birds.
This can legally be done through the Department Of Agriculture, Environment And Rural Affairs Wildlife (Northern Ireland) Order 1985 (As Amended) Licence.
This Licence hereby authorises for the purpose of preventing the spread of disease and preventing serious damage to livestock, foodstuffs for livestock, crops, vegetables, fruit, growing timber and fisheries ANY AUTHORISED PERSON to kill or take any of the following birds:-
Crow, Jackdaw, Magpie, Pigeon (Wood), Pigeon (Feral), Rook, Sparrow (House), Starling.
Range Finder Bushnell Scout 1000
Rifle BSA Super10 John Bowkett Blueprinted .22cal 15ft/lb
Scope Nikko Stirling Targetmaster 4-16x44 LRX
Pellets JSB Diabolo Exact 15.9 Grain
Tactacam 5.0 and FTS unit

I usually save your videos till bed time. Something about these pellet gun videos that’s relaxing, but I haven’t seen you pop up on my feed in a while, so I had to watch right away. For the misses, you didn’t just clean your barrel or something, did you? Your sights were right on and didn’t flinch. I couldn’t see the grass moving from wind, but I never shoot like this, so I dunno. I just got back from a 5 day camping grouse hunt in the Canadian wilderness. I bagged a few with my brand new (and very beautiful) antique Spanish 20g SxS, double trigger shotgun. I just love it, and it points so well. Only down side is I spent half the holiday hiding under a tarp in the pouring rain, sleet and wet snow. Still, I got a few good days, and the nights in my new hammock were awesome!

Now that's real hunting. No hadn't cleaned the barrel but i have now thinking that was the problem and it was surprisingly clean anyway.

@@HuntersVermin I don’t know much about pellets, but I know some 22lr like my High Standard pistol shoots like hell when it’s just been cleaned. First time it happened I thought I ruined the barrel. But after a dozen shots or so, it calmed down. I’ve been told it’s the same thing with pellet guns. And at the end, you were hitting a tiny stick, so maybe?

Id have to pick a better spot down to the left for the crown as the field crowns to the right and you could run out of back stop shooting from a sitting position.

What are you doing when you say "tidy-up the pattern" ? I know it's moving the decoys, but how do you decide which to move & how / where to move it ? Great vid 👍
@HuntersVermin
@HuntersVermin Жыл бұрын
What i mean by tidying up the pattern is to lift any shot birds and set them up as decoys because incoming birds don't like landing if they see any dead birds lying on their backs, plus if the birds are landing were i don't want them too like in this video when the birds were landing too far to my left i moved the left hand decoys more to the right to try and get the birds to land closer and more in front of me which seemed to work.

In the old days when i used to use hide poles and cammo nets to make a hide it could have been an hour but now with the pop up hide I'd say its more like 30 mins plus its a lot more weather proof if the weather turns nasty.

Could be any number of issues, the magazine, I am guessing they were unweighed and in sorted pellets so could be a batch issue. The rifles zero looked good but some pellets just wernt playing ball so to speak nice video it's good to see the problems that the best can have 😎👍👏
@HuntersVermin

It wouldn't be the first time i've got a bad tin of pellets now or it could be that the rifle is just a part timer, part of the time it hits and part of the time it doesn't.
