Thanks for making this. I removed the 14 mm bolt that holds in the spring and the tensioner push rod when doing an oil change just to check it out. Looked good as new after 8,143 total miles on odometer. I bought my '21 red Monkey brand new with 0.1 miles on odometer.

Can you show us how to adjust the hydraulic chain tensioner on the 22 Honda grom. I want to install the part on this video on my 22 Grom.
@KCadbyRacing2 жыл бұрын
I'm surprised Honda doesn't harden that bolt, and/or machine holes (or a groove?) to hold oil. Sounds like someone needs to find/sell a HD Cam Chain as well and JFYI for your viewers, if your chain has play up front, in the middle of the Cam Sprocket ( 18:13 ) that shows/means the chain has stretched too much and needs to be replaced (same test works for checking if the drive chain in worn out)...

Anyone installing this chain tensioner, make sure to loctide the sprocket on the tensioner cuz the screw will walk out of its place. It did on me but caught it on time

thanks for the video. I have a 22 honda monkey. my question is..is it difficult to adjust the cam chain tensioner? I understand Honda changed the tensioner on the 22 model.

Hey how’s it going? How has the Speed cam chain tensioner held up since installing? I was thinking about purchasing the kit before going to the upgraded cam from stock.

thank you so much for dropping this knowledge down! because of this vid..i picked up the same tensioner for my 22 grom! havent installed it yet, as im waiting for my DHM 149 BBK to get delivered... should be coming in a couple days! Cant wait! My set up so far would be: Chinera intake, amazon exhaust, DHM cam, DHM 149 BBK, kitaco 5 row oil cooler (which i will be ordering this week). ----What would you suggest be my next step as far as things to help my Grom not blow up....lol... or things like this that is hood preventative items that could be a issue/concern down the line. i appreciate all that you do, brotha! Your vids are always informative and i love learning from youer vids, especially the grom vids! The 22 grom is my very first bike and im having so much dang fun riding arounf with it! one of the best decisions ive made! 🤘😆🤘🏍️

Upgraded oil pump and clutch springs won’t hurt! Aracer ecu is also a great investment on these bikes we are always tinkering with the aracer grows with you instead of being limited to the current flash that’s on your ecu.
@ThongNguyen-so5ut2 жыл бұрын
@@HunterTuned - i swear you totally read my mind!! Rn, i have 3 ecu's (1 is the original oem which i leave unflashed in case i want to go back to all stock).. the other 2 ive been having flashed by CJR and DHM .... Looking in hindsight...with all the money that went into those flashes, I totally should have gotten that aRacer and wideband setup from the get go!!! 🤦🏻♂️ Thank you for the push... I think that will be my next big purchase for my grom! I'll also look into an upgraded oil pump solution as well. Through your experience, eny particual one you'd recommend?

Speed shop didnt invent the bearing on the arm. Yuminashi has been making a cam chain arm with bearing for a while for only 40$. The speed shop one looks way nicer but cost 3x that!

Doesn't sound right to me. If monkey's had this problem with major engine components after 100's of Miles they would be under the lemon law and probably recalled. Sounds more like some people are too hard on stuff. And in some cases the rider's weight is hard on the components. And of course 3d parties trying to sell there products. I'm sure this is a well made and designed product and may even work better than the stock one. but, I also don't think there is a inherent flaw in the factory tensioner. Cheers
@HunterTuned2 жыл бұрын
I mentioned the stock tensioner system works fine when running stock engine. These engines that I have built up and many others that are having the issues make triple stock engine power and rev 3000rpm higher then stock. That’s when I issues come about and that’s when these parts work the best.

@@HunterTuned It ain't really fine. I'm a lightweight rider and done quite serious mileage on my '19 Monkey. Am on my third cam chain tensioner assembly. The first main tensioner wheel wore down to the metal while the bike was still under warranty. You could hear it. Honda dealership refused to concede anything was wrong (but then how many 20k+ Monkeys/Groms do they see?) and when I pulled it open myself, the metal spindle had seized, sharpened the chain like a razor and wore down almost to the point of falling off entirely. The arm had therefore raised so high up it would scrape on the 2nd gear when engaged, and the gear had worn the edge of the arm away and bent it slightly inwards. This was at about 23,000 miles. I've done nearly another 40,000 miles since then, always made a point of checking the tensioner when there's any noise, and replaced it once more at about 42,000 miles, and now at 60,000 miles it is almost ready to be replaced again - and I noticed quite a lot of rubbery crap blocking the oil strainer mesh and a thickish coating of it inside the oil spinner too. I've not had any catastrophic failures or breakdowns, but the cam tensioner is most definitely a serious weak point for anyone doing quite considerable mileage on these engines.
