Hunting for Criterion Blu-rays with fan (feat. Van Watches Movies)

What's up, Collectors! Today I met up with my friend Van from Van Watches movies and his friend Timothy for more Criterion hunting. We had a great conversation in the store, and I found some pickups I've been searching for all month.

As a Swede, I'm so jelous for being able to drive to a B&N and browse for Criterions like this. Would love it so much. Been in one in NYC in 2016 I think, wasn't during a sale but it was two blu-rays for the price of one so basicly it pretty much was. Eraserhead released that day I was going home so picked that up, don't remember what the other one was but I remember I got The Great Beauty from B&N when they still sold and shipped to Sweden during the Criterion sales. Good times. Agree on how good that one is! But I'm hoping for a 4k upgrade!

Double Life of Veronique was the first Kieslowski I ever saw back in 91. It’s such an extraordinary film. If you like Three Colors, you will enjoy it. I was lucky to rewatch it recently at NGA and Annette Insdorf who did the Blue analysis video on the CC box gave a wonderful introduction to the film, telling stories of translating for Kieslowski and comparing Juliette Binoche and Irene Jacob. 🥰

Waterloo Records was where I got my Criterion edition of The Third Man. It has a fantastic movie section.

Love your videos just started actively collecting Criterion in July. I am doing it a little different than most when it comes to collecting. I collect strictly in spine number order, I have purchased the first 53 so far. I picked up numbers 29-53 on the Barnes and Noble website from the November sale, minus the three out of print titles that I had to find on Ebay and Mercari. Seeing them all in order with no spaces is so satisfying. I have started collecting a few other labels that follow strict spine numbers like Indicator, Radiance, BFI and even Full Moon Features has a nice spine number.

I’m going to be in Cumming, GA for Thanksgiving to visit friends. I should go out there and check out all those B&N stores while we’re there. We also have a lot of stores here in the Raleigh area, NC but some of them have such slim pickings compared to the stores around you guys.

VERONIQUE is amazing, equal to THE THREE COLORS TRILOGY. I see that SYMBIOPSYCHOTAXIPLASM: TWO TAKES was mentioned and this is highly recommended for a future pickup, if you already don't have it.

I often go to Amoeba in Hollywood and have been going there 20 years but I have never bought any of their new titles. New is always full retail. I do though get lots of great used blu-ray at reasonable prices.
