I found your channel and subscribed back when it was starting up. I starting at age 11 with BX and quickly found copies of the ("better!") B, E, & C books. Your stories bring me back to fond memories of that era!

Nice! I remember playing 3e with my (then) 6 year old (now 22 and in the Navy). I was so proud of her first spell verbal (“Sleepy, sleepy, go to sleep and NEVER WAKE UP!”). ☺️

Great work with the added Sprites, using the already known Cleric in a new way, and leaving us on a Cliff Hanger

Thanks! Yes, I'm an Anglican priest, but I'm also a former stage actor, so that does come into it. And a ham. A giant, giant ham.

That was fun. I saw a comment below about 5e, and I want to recommend a yt channel for you. I 'think' you'll enjoy it. The yt channel is called 'The Old Warlock' and the video is titled 'Why AD&D is More Dangerous Than 5th Edition'. It's things like this that bother me about what happened to D&D. I'll never understand why they made some of the changes that they made. I prefer a game that's hard and challenging, instead of easy, and where going up levels is hard, yet 5e is the most popular version. I shouldn't be surprised though... but I am, cause imo, 1e & 2e are just better. Then again, I've only played 1e & 2e, but I've read some of the rules for 3e & 5e : )

5E isn't for me. I've read some of the books, watched my eldest play in a group at the FLGS, as well as Viva La Dirt League's game with Rob Hartley. I don't hate it or anything, but I find it way more complicated than BECMI and it's just not my groove.

@@TheDungeonMinister I'm a 1e & 2e player, but I love the system called Castles & Crusades. Great system, which I believe Gary Gygax may have worked with them. Not sure, but I heard that. I took stuff from their book and basically created my own edition of D&D, which I enjoy.

Very cool little tale so far! Thnx!! 👍Are you finding that your kids are enjoying BECMI? Do they ask about other systems? Just curious if you've encountered that and kinda how or if you've addressed it. Thnx

They are enjoying it, but have asked about 5E simply because the local game store has a games night and they play 5E. I downloaded the starter kit for them and my eldest is running it for his brothers and I. It's going OK.

8:08 You felt 'a voice' might be a useful tool to use in 'the story'. How interesting... Have you listened to (or read) Chapter 2 yet? Just curious. I'm seeing other parallels to 'our stories' that are also quite interesting. My story is based on my campaign that I had worked on, here and there, over the years, but sadly didn't get to play it, so I created 8 characters and took on the roll of both player and DM, and just 'went adventuring', that is, I wrote how I would've 'liked' my campaign to go, or thought it might go, and the next thing I knew, I was writing a story. There's more, but that's the gist of what happened. I stopped there, to leave you this comment. Finishing up the rest now : )

@@TheDungeonMinister and those Wood Elves are my own creation. No clue how they differ from typical D&D Wood Elves though, but I just made them up and I really like them.

You don't have to know how they're different until a player asks...and since this is a solo story, you're golden!

@@TheDungeonMinister Yep, but I'm curious what others will think of them, let alone what Wood Elves are like in D&D today. We never played them. Elves were 'High Elves', though I believe Gary Gygax referred to 'Gray Elves' as a rare type of Elf, but I never looked into what the differences were.

How do you deal with Clerics in your game? Are they Christian or is there the usual D&D golf bag of gods?
@TheDungeonMinister
@TheDungeonMinister 2 жыл бұрын
That's a very good question. I've considered making a video about religion in RPGs, given my own situation. The short answer is...sort of, sort of not. Yes and no. (Very Anglican.) Since we only had a PC cleric for one game, we haven't explored it too much in depth. The surface details are indistinguishable from Christianity, and it's our parish church that serves as the cleric's base in the game. (I just used our parish village as the fictional setting.) But we don't go into a lot of detail, for several complex reasons.

As president of the kobolds union I hereby demand you cease and desist all assertions regarding my good members' bravery, or lack thereof. Ours is a proud and mighty people who quiver cravenly in the shadows for no man and all future assertions thereto shall be vigorously challenged in the local courts! Unless, of course, that angers you somehow, in which case we withdraw our suggestion and return to our dignified skulking in the dark.
