I’ve collected some of the most incredible stones in previous years but never knew what to do with them. Now I’m making jewelry and selling some in bulk. Thank you so much for sharing your passion! those roads down to the Fraser River at Big Bar are absolutely beyond belief INSANE! We camped at Big Bar Lake in 2010 shortly before moving to the Cariboo and the following morning continued west, planning to take the Beg Bar ferry across the Fraser. The morning was heavy overcast and it had rained most of the night, but like you, had no clue what we were in for! We started down those steep hills and switchbacks and literally couldn't keep the van from slipping on the wet clay road surface. Thankfully hubby called it before we got too far and we backed up to where we could turn around and headed back up to the top. It was slow going, the van didn't really want to go up the hill any more than it had wanted to stop when we were going the other direction. When we finally regained somewhat level ground we thanked our lucky stars and headed back out to Highway 97.

Hey Dan, you’re in our neck of the woods. Just acquired a claim this past fall not too far from your claim, but in the Churn creek area near the Gangland Ranch bridge. Beautiful country, isn’t it? Never thought brown, burnt country could be so beautiful, either. What I found amazing was the gold on the river bank on our claim. Nothing great in size, but the quantity of fine stuff. Simply throw a stone and where it lands, dig; you’ll find gold. Also found lots of Chinese writing stones, some Jasper and Jade/Serpentine on the beach. When I was there in the Fall I thought of you and how much you would love it in that area considering the stones I was finding. There’s another one I don’t know anything about. It’s all over but looks like a rock with a permanent oil sheen to it. Maybe you’ll know what it is when you come across it. Don’t think it has any value to it, just interesting. Maybe we’ll run into each other one day. Have fun with your new claim!

I'm from Scotland so not used to bears. Don't need to worry too much when hiking and whatnot. Over there in Canada though what the heck do you do when there's a bear close to you like that but on the same side of the river? Hide? Run? Stay put? No idea lol but I am interested.
@billbauer9795
@billbauer9795 2 жыл бұрын
You can't outrun a bear. So one is advised to stand one's ground and to slowly back away. Most Canadians don't have guns to protect themselves from bears. However, bear spray is available, and people are advised to carry it when spending time outdoors. There is a record of all bear attacks en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fatal_bear_attacks_in_North_America and there is about one fatality per year. So one's chance of being killed is low, but not zero. Most bears are afraid of humans, and bear spray works most of the time on the bears that choose to attack. Bears never attack a group with more than four people in it...

There is nothing like being in that part of the country. It is like going to Nome Alaska for me. You look out and everything is so vast, amazing, alluring all at once it over whelms your senses. im at 13:22. i had an idea the sand from the surrounding mountains covers the gravels making it look less packed but i bet if you got deeper you'd find your bigger rocks your looking for. also lots of potential for small landslides covering deposits in that area from seeing the sandy hills and the other side might even have ancient bench deposits buried from the washes. i can fully imagine a mudslide covering that stretch on the other side as one of those washes blew out.

Dan im so glad i found your channel. Been watching for arounf a year now because i just love the scenery and your laid back way of prospecting. When i was about 10 i took a trip to Canada with my grandparents and we stayed at campgrounds for around a week. One place we stopped at had a beautiful river and a stoney sandbar much like this. I took a rock that i thought looked amazing, always thought it was white fossils stuck in black rock, almost like tube worms or something. Now i know its Chinese Writing Stone. Both my grandparents have passed and i forgot all about that rock until i saw you find some. I immediately jumped up and went to find it. 23 years later and you brought back a flood of memories from that trip. Thank you so much! Love the content and you'll always have a fan and viewer!! Dan, ever consider using a basic sit on top kayak? Usually you can drag them around on a little cart on balloon tires to go from your truck to the waters edge (so you can also mule it and your basic pack around with it without killing yourself) then you could totally access your cross river claim area without worrying about access through other folks properties (if they prove to be less than friendly) The wider types as used for fishing are pretty stable and easy to navigate... might make a useful tool.
