For those who would say just move or care for the animals in some other way, remember, we in the USA "care" for over 45,000 wild mustangs in BLM holding facilities at ridiculous cost annually to the tax paying. I'm a professional horse trainer and love horses, but to elevate this particular animal to a non-kill status, at this cost, is ludicrous. The cost of holding horses in these BLM facilities is over $50 million per year. This is in an insane misuse of our tax dollars as so many things are. Managed hunting and even slaughter for hungry people around, the world would be a far more sensible option. Ethical, well managed hunting is a wonderful and useful tool for proper wildlife management. Well done on this hunt. I loved it.

It's a good question. If the hunt is done legally and part of a conservation program then it actually help the population as a whole. The main reason for the decline in all wildlife is habitat loss. Although human expansion is needed, it's still very sad that these habitats are lost.

With modern weapons they die very quickly, much less pain and stress. The reasons for hunting also changed. Back then it was mostly for survival of humans, now it is for survival of animals. We cannot afford to protect our land, habitat and wildlife with other methods of income. Only with funds generated by foreign hunters can we give our wildlife a safe place to live and breed. Good day Andy. It's a legit question, thanks for asking. I wish I had a more definitive answer on this specific lion but I don't. I arrive and film, don't have all the info. I do know that sometimes it's a numbers thing, sometimes a non-breeding animals that can be replaced by a breeding one, new genetics etc. Sometimes it's just a lion that isn't in a pride, doesn't matter about the condition. In most countries there is an age limit of 5 years. Any younger than that isn't allowed to be shot. Sometimes you get problem animal permits for a cattle killer, but that doesn't happen in South Africa. Thanks for watching and thank you for the question. I hope this answer helps.
@Amack1966 Жыл бұрын
Thank you. It does answer the question, there are many factors at play when deciding what to shoot and when. Sustainably, ethical and number and age all come into play. I have seen the benefits that hunting can bring in the wider context of conservation. One animal taken can be of benefit to so much more than the antis would have most believe.

After school I worked in Namibia on a hunting farm and since I am a conservationist and hunter myself I’ll try to awnser the question why this kind of hunting PROTECTS and does not aid in the decimation of the animals: Try to imagine the country in sections where animals and people (Agrar culture etc) live together. The government has scientists work out how many animals of each species are making up a healthy and sustainable population. The number can vary from section to section because of different factors. For example: per Hektar of land in section A, four lions make a healthy sustainable population. Now imagine there are more than the 4 there, the population starts to get sicknesses or gets weak because of malnutrition etc. The government is now giving away permits for two lions to professional hunters who themselves pay for the permit. They now can take that permit and sell it to a client. The client pays a lot of money for taking one of these two LEGAL creatures. The money that is generated helps so the professional hunter can pay the locals to work for him, he pays for anti poaching AND conservation efforts in order to have a healthy population for the next season. So in short: the hunting of a few creatures helps to pay for the conservation of the entire species. It’s not perfect but as long as the animals have a financial worth they will be protected. Otherwise the animals will be hunted without any control with old AKs, snares, traps and poison till there doom. Maybe this helps with the explanation a little. Regards

Good day Joseph. Unfortunately I do not have much information on Leopard specific conservation efforts, I will do some research though. Human wildlife conflict is one of the main reasons wildlife numbers in general are declining. Luckily Leopard can adjust better than most other species but poisoning and poaching with dogs are the main threads. I agree that many hunting areas are mismanaged and doesn't help much to protect the species. We cannot judge all hunting outfitters by the actions of a few. One of the many reasons to have a hunt filmed is that is makes illegal activity much harder. I've had videos with long explanations about these programs and even that didn't change anything, too many people didn't that part and didn't read the full story in the video description. I decided to make these videos for people that understand it and enjoy watching it instead of adding parts that they already know and the anti-hunters don't believe anyways. The fact is that we cannot afford to protect their habitat without funds raised by selectively hunting a few animals. It's not perfect but it's the best tool we have.

Hi Imapls. I agree that wildlife used to be able to look after itself, but lately it's been tough. The extreme rise in human population means that Africa has less and less safe places for wildlife. Nature reserved do make a positive impact but it is very localized. Controlled hunting like this generated the needed funds to protect huge amounts of land and habitat where thousands of animals live and breed.

@AfricanSunProductions2 жыл бұрын
We do preserve them, yes. There are almost no truly wild areas left in Africa. Villagers are moving in everywhere and with them they bring cattle. When cattle moves in the villagers will kill ALL lions, just like the Masai tribe did in Tanzania. Not a single lion is left. So do we let uncontrolled decimation of animals happen, or do we protect the species by only hunting a few selected animals? I know the latter is the only option we have and that is why we do it.

Good day Russ, thanks for the comment. All the meat used in some way or form, depending on the country of the hunt. In many African countries lion meat is a delicacy. If there is a village or town close to the hunting area, most of the meat is donated there. The hunter can use some of the meat while he is in Africa but cannot take any meat to his home country.
