Destin, I'm hoping you will make a video soon about how the measures we are told to take work, or don't work so well. Social distancing - it doesn't make spread of the virus impossible, or even very rare, if people are not wearing masks and washing hands when appropriate. Distancing only reduces the odds of catching the virus. And recent studies show that more people than they thought have the disease, but without significant symptoms. Also, it would be good to show how to wash and *re-use* masks and other PPE. The rural areas are not populated by less valuable people - we need the equipment that the big cities have, and disinfecting and re-using PPE might be the only way to have enough. Thanks for this video.

*A note from a Firefighter/Paramedic, (please like/pin so that it can be seen!):* While hospitals and doctor's offices absolutely need this gear, your local Fire / EMS / Police departments do as well. These providers are walking into homes of patient's who are infected, in environments that are about as contaminated as they get. Please remember to reach out to your local departments and involve them in the supply distribution. Thanks for your work!

Hey, on a real note. My sister is a first year nurse in Huntsville. Thank you for helping organize that community. Nurses are tough, strong, and fearless. Their families aren’t, and I fear that she’ll fall sick from Covid everyday. They were sewing their own masks this weekend they need help.

Hi Apophis, I work in healthcare myself and got sick with COVID19 a week ago. Fortunately I'm still quite young and my fever broke already. Just got to take it easy because of the respitory symptoms. It's annoying, but not that bad. I hope to be up and running in about 2 weeks again. Many colleagues of mine have been infected and so far we've all made it. That stats aren't that bad. If you are still young and don't got any pre-existing conditions there is a good chance nothing serious will happen. There's even a chance she won't get any symptoms at all. I'm not saying this disease shouldn't be taken seriously. It totally should. It's just that most (certainly not all) fatalities happen in 60+ demographic and/or with pre-existing conditions.

Chris Pontius I’m glad you are getting better. Getting sick is often a side effect of your job. You did your part. Now sit back and let them get you back up and running. I don’t know what country/state you are from, but we are losing a lot of people in my part that of the state of Alabama. People didn’t take it seriously, and now we are watching entire communities succumb to this disease. We are outpacing almost all of Alabama in infections per capita, and deaths per capita. I sincerely wish the best for you. If this sickness is barely a hindrance to you just imagine what it would take to actually bring you down. Get well soon.

OK, one criticism, from someone who did all the disinfection for a small medical device company for 12 years; you really shouldn't be expediting the drying with fans unless you are in a cleanroom. Moving an excessive amount of air over a medical product forces any contamination in the room into contact with the product, rather than just the small amount that might fall onto the product from passive air currents. We went so far as to redirect the HVAC vent that was near the High Level Disinfection station. Otherwise, all this talk of disinfection setup and execution brought back a lot of memories!

Destin this effort makes my eyes water. I'm an RN in Tulsa, I work in an ICU that is now solely dedicated to caring for people with COVID-19, and my greatest fear is bringing this virus home to my family. We are being proactively conservative with our PPE in preparation for the coming influx of people, but your community's efforts will make a difference and I thank you for sharing this template of coordination for other communities to follow.
@js267

Destin the disconnect is a huge part of the problem, and connecting is a huge part of the solution. We *think* there is a shortage of many supplies, but talking to relatives from two local hospitals, I found out one had plenty of face shields but no gowns, and the other had plenty of gowns but no face shields. Luckily I knew someone high enough up at one of the hospitals that they were able to get leadership at the two hospitals connected to discuss helping each other out. Perhaps nationally or globally we have more of what we need than we realize, and everything just needs to be shifted. Relatives from the same two hospitals also connected and discovered that there was an entire community unaware of COVID-19 because of a language barrier. They asked people further up the chain to investigate, and within a few days they had doctors who spoke their language making radio spots and doing other community outreach. I love this video and your ability to take action and lead.

Thank you for helping us. As an ER doc i have never seen such an aggressive and contagious disease. In a matter of hours patients go from mild shortness of breath to complete respiratory failure to a ventilator. Let me suggest an idea. We need an intubation box design with an engineering mind. I can provide de finances. Intubating a patient is extremely risky to infect people in the room. The box is a clear hard plastic box with 2 holes to fit your hands an it is use to minimize exposure while intubating a patient. The one we have is literally a box with two holes. It’s not ergonomic and very hard to work with it. We only will need very few per hospital and we can clean them and reused them. Let’s Thanks you to the amazing group of nurses, respiratory therapists, ER techs, EMT’s. Paramedics. Firefighters, Police, House keeping. You guys are Awesome!!! 😷

Destin, I am a nurse at Crestwood and I have just been issued one of the faceshields that you helped produce. Though I know this comment may not ever cross your screen, I want you to know that I appreciate what you have help organize. As a short side note; my children are totally geeked about you and this channel. In fact we ran into your wife and kids at Costco and my kids and I talked to them a bit. I can only imagine how many times you both get stopped in town. Also, my 13 year old put "meet Destin Sandlin" on her Homeschool bucket list and was unable to even speak a word to Tara (your wife's name? ) because she had been unable to unlock her smile. While watching this video they, my wife and I got a bit teary eyed. We are grateful that you have been able to keep me safe at work and as a result also kept my family safe. Thanks for making this video! People need to see the process of how you set this up and start actually helping. Everyone wants to do something to help and downloading a file and hitting print is easy, the important part is making sure the help you're trying to provide is helpful, and making sure that when you do provide something it can be used! Doctors and nurses can't use your gear if it's not properly sterilized, it can hurt them and the patients, so even if you're trying to be helpful if it isn't done properly it'll end up being a hassle not a help! Showing the infrastructure behind the scenes and the process taken to set it up so a large group of people can quickly and effectively make the biggest impact as fast as possible is lovely to see!

9:58 "When people come together from all different walks, differing opinions, and they all come together and work for a common cause that's good, I get emotional." THIS!! I don't know why, but this always makes me tear up! I think it's because there is so much divisiveness in the world today. People are so quick to hate and judge those who are different from them. Fear takes over and they jump to conclusions without questioning their own logic or reasoning. It's hard to be truly empathetic. It's hard to have your perspective challenged. It's hard to see things from a different point of view, especially when you are afraid. I think a lot of people are afraid right now and the instinct is to protect yourself and your loved ones, forsaking all others. That's why I'm so encouraged by people who go against their primal instincts and overcome their differences to come together for a cause that's bigger than them... Difficult times bring out the best, AND the worst in people. It really separates the wheat from the chaff. Thanks for showing the rest of us the rarely-reported positive side in these confusing times.

This is an incredible operation you've been part of!!! I personally have never seen a community sourced production. It makes total sense. This could be a real model for production of many items moving forward. A part gets designed, Files get uploaded, within hours you could potentially have hundreds or thousands of them. On a personal level, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking these steps and helping out. I'm one of those front line workers you're talking about. I work in a hospital down in Florida. This has been a rough month. Shortages started coming up everywhere. Thank you for what you're doing, I coulda been totally satisfied with another video to geek out over like walking water droplets, rolling shutter effect or snatch blocks, but man you really hit home with this! FYI: A lack of N95 masks has led some people to wrap scarfs, etc around their face since it's "better than nothing". However, you can buy a nearly identical fabric at your local Home Depot in the air filter aisle. You're probably used to seeing the furnace filters in the cardboard box with the pleated material, but some larger furnaces require you to just buy the folded fabric and place the material between the fingers of a comb like structure. This material is about 3 feet long x 6 inches wide and even folded is about two inches thick in the box! So it's probably like 50 feet long unfolded! That's a LOT of masks for like $10 or whatever I paid (it was a while ago). Just trace the pattern of an actual mask, cut out and attach a rubber band! I'll take a HEPA filter material over an old tshirt anyday!

In these days and times, it's nice to remember President Kenedys words, slightly rewritten: "Ask not: What van my health care system do for me, ask: What can I do to keep health care staying alive!" Here in Denmark, our communities of Maker Space and Fab-Lab started producing face shields two weeks ago, and they asked all public offices to donate all their lamination pockets and overhead foils, and every one with a 3D printer is now working on the project. Every niche producer of beer and spirits have changed their objective to produce alcohol for sanitizing. Half the World is stepping up to the plate, doing what they can to help their fellow humans, while the other half is whining about having to stay home for a few weeks, so I guess the Apokalypse has been postponed for a while now, and there's still hope for human kind :) An other thing that has sprung out of this mayhem, is people who are volunteering to help those who are affected by the virus, by doing grocery shopping and other chores, so those in quarantine can stay at home, all organized by our local Red Cross and local FB groups. It's heart warming to see how help is always given to those who needs it, even in the face of doom :)

I'm on board!! What fantastic work as explained! We are in line as a human society to fix this .00001 percent issue that would be .0001 percent issue. I love you Destin.. sincerely, you make my day every time I wake; with a new, intelligently designed explanation with few holes!.. or a great explanation of which I cannot find., But community is what allowed us to survive the last 100,000 years. It developed us, contemporary in a sense. We eradicated a lot of horrible suffering, but many suffering existed before! As a numbers person, its Important for us all to remember...we are actually existing off of a 10 too the 200th (or more; arguably) of out human existence on this very young planet we call earth! We have come exponentially in just 200 years, and now have the knowledge to sustain ( our sick & suffering) beyond what was even comprehensible just 50 years ago. These are numbers that will translate ,exponentially in just a generation. These numbers have already. Look at the math! Math does not lie! The point is, in a more logical situation. 2 billion years of our 100,000 years is not good numbers! Mother nature will continue to evolve. That you cannot stop. We, just as billions before us will suffer and perish well beyond our technology, and mother nature will guarantee that. We can make a change, that's proven! Just like one small jump from a Bat to a human , as a virus; WE AS GREAT HUMAN BEINGS CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE NOW! THAT MAKES US HUMAN!

One thing that science says will help, is using CPAP machines supplied with oxygen on the less critical hospital patients. That makes the ventilators available to more people. The UK is doing just that, but that's not something I hear much about here in the USA. I have a CPAP machine, and so does my mom, but we don't currently use them... When they decide to let our parents go without the necessary help because they are short of ventilators, we will all wish that someone had organized a "CPAP drive" or something to that effect.
