Glad y'all made it through the Hurricane at both places, I had to chuckle when your roster Tadder, kept crowing and then you were telling about how he came to defend the lone chicken. You actually have a great roster and he is doing his job to keep his flock safe. You made a very smart choice at Off Grid property not going further into all the brush the cottonmouths don't play and its looks to be a far piece back to help if you were bitten.

There are media who over hype situations. However, some areas are hit hard while another within close proximity will be fine. I’m about 35 miles north of Kingwood Texas. Kingwood was devastated by hurricane Harvey. There are areas that have yet to recover. My place 35 miles north got some rain, but no flooding. Always be ready and prepared for any contingency. Glad your area is doing well.

Non ethanol gas with stable is the key to keeping small engine carbs running when they sit for a while. Also running the carb dry is a good idea.

You know for a fellow that lives and preaches about being prepared for the unexpected. I cannot believe you went to the off grid place NOT prepared for what you may face following a hurricane. Like a lot of water, damage and snakes. I mean who on earth takes off on an adventure like that without at least some clothing for protection and boots for high water and snakes and what ever else you might find? Shorts and crock shoes???? I don't even walk out to my barn in my crocks.

I am so very glad to see that the homestead and cabin are in good shape.. You are there and can see instantly that everything is fine.. All the rest of us only have the news reports on the Carolinas getting washed away.. .. It doesn't look like you can count on your neighbors for help if you get bit by a snake so get some sort of boot.. I tell everyone that comes here to have cowboy boots to protect from snakes.. (ive only seen 4 in 3 years.)

Convert your generator to propane/natural gas/gas. Natural gas if you have a line to the house and propane if you don't as propane has no expiration date and if any gets left in the carb it will leak out on its own. Leaves you the option for propane for quick uses or gas for long term as long as you remember to switch it back 20-40 minutes before you shut down to clean the liquids from the system.

I recorded a similar compilation of clips because I wanted people to know the news exaggerates these storms, but I've yet to produce a video from the clips. Thanks for doing this. It's ridiculous how the news makes people unfamiliar with hurricanes think we have an annual apocalypse.

With your generator, if you have a fuel shutoff, while it's still running shutoff the fuel and let the carb run dry. That won't get all the gas, but should limit the dirty carb issues.Yes, be prepped and ready. At least hurricanes you get some notice to top off gas cans, etc. Earthquakes here on the West Coast not so much.

Get a goose and put in with your chickens as long as they all stay in the pin the goose will keep stuff at bay and the noise it makes will let you know when things get threatening.

Nirvana. Nice. When Florence was a cat-4, I did stress a bit. But when she dropped to a cat-2 AFTER hitting the gulf stream I relaxed. Florence was only a cat-1 when she landed. Had she hit as a cat-4 things would be a whole lot different! Why it weakened over the Gulf stream is a mystery. We got lucky. I know the folks still wading don't think so, but we really dodged the proverbial bullet. Yes...the media repetitively exaggerates! To the point of crying wolf even. But you're right... you gotta stay prepared. This EASILY could have been so bad. Farmers Almanac says this winter is going to be a doozy. Maybe Florence was supposed to help with firewood for the winter? Glad your ponds refilled!! 💧💦

Yes, all I could think about when you were using the chainsaw was snakes. I really hate snakes. Buy you some good snake-resistant boots (is there such a thing?) to keep at the cabin. I really don't want to see a Tommy got snakebit video. Glad you came out on the easy side of the storm.

Unfortunately when they hype up storms like this it gets to a situation where the story of the little boy who cried Wolf becomes a reality

The hype around hurricanes, storms and weather in general can also be seen from another point. Forcasting these big weather events always contains a lot of uncertainty . There is not one model that always gets the right result. As a result of this, forcasters use many different models that all give different results, ranging from no damage to cataclysmic. I remember that a few years ago a storm in the netherlands turned out to be much heavier than was forcast. As a result all media and even the government fell all over the big weather forecasters. I suspect some simular events took place in the US. So now they always warn for the worse case scenarios, just to be safe. On top of that there is also the hype created by the big media you talk about. All they care about is viewer counts and they think that everything needs to be over the top to get those. So they naturally gravitate towards the worst case scenarios that the weather forecasters only give a small chance of happening.
@ericpl72276 жыл бұрын
Yea, and let's not forget the overhyping of these weather events plays nicely into their "global climate warming change" hoax!
@dropshot19676 жыл бұрын
ericpl72 I don't agree with you on that. You can't say that the world is not getting warmer when the 16 warmest years globally have all occured in the last 18 years. You also can't say something is, or is not happening on the bases of just a few reports. The fact is that over 90% of all scientific and verified reports show global warming is happening. And if you want to see it happening in real life, check out the situation of the innuit communities on the coast of alaska. The permafrost overthere is melting like crazy and their land is falling in the sea because of that. There are whole villages that need to be relocated because of it, and it is happening along a verry large part of the alaskan coast.
@thepatriotfarmer35806 жыл бұрын
Sorry Jelle, but you are blinded by the hype that's being created with falsified evidence to keep the government grant money flowing. The manipulation of the data that has been going on for years is widespread and in my opinion, seditious. There is so much evidence of past manipulation that it's become a joke.
@dropshot19676 жыл бұрын
TheMusicWell First of all I do not live in the US, so i am not as inclined to believe in conspiricies. And if you do not believe over 97% of the scientists that investigate all different indicators of wheater/climate change, I won't be able to change your mind. It is strange that only in the US there is a loud minority that tries to deny climate change but outside of the US 99% of the people have accepted it as fact. So lets agree to disagree.
@thepatriotfarmer35806 жыл бұрын
I only agree that "Eyes are of no assistance to a mind that is blind". The fact (instant estimate) that 99% of people outside of the USA have accepted global warming as 100% fact is ludicrous...
