One thing I didn't mention is that we were fortunate with rainfall totals in my specific location. There were severe storms before Helene, but it died down about a day prior, so the flash flooding in my area was nowhere near as bad as further south and on the NC side. We had a few creeks tops, but only in areas where that is not uncommon. And I apologize that some of the footage in the woods is not high quality. The camera I was using does not do well in settings where the sun filters through and constantly changes the lighting. This was planned on short noticed and I used the equipment that was easiest to handle on the go.

have been thinking of you glad you are OK. We had a tree go down across our driveway and power out for about 30 hrs transformer blew and caught one of the trees on fire. Our awesome Holsten electric guys took care of it. We are on a big hill no flood here. God bless TN .

Where are you located? I'm glad to hear you are okay as well. Someone I know in Church Hill just got power back a few days ago.

Very glad you are safe and were minimally affected - and good to hear your mate, Bird Dog is OK, too. I shall see if he has posted any footage. Some of the most dramatic footage I've seen has been from regular people recording the devastation visited upon their neighbourhoods - really awful, but glad they are able to record it, as many won't believe it. We had heavy winds a month ago, losing a few trees and our next door neighbour lost an enormous gum, blown clear out the ground the root ball the height of their roof and so close, to say they were lucky is an understatement - but only today is that being cleared away by council, so, I honestly do fear for the clean up across WNC & Tenn. I pray they are getting the support they need.. I have driven through your area, Asheville, Chimney Rock, Banner Elk, Bristol - a long time ago, but I know enough that getting up those steep valleys to clear roads, replace power lines, washed out roads & bridges is going to be challenging, to say the least. I'm heartbroken for those who lost loved ones and everything in this disaster - I can imagine for too many, there was no place to run... - I can't fathom what will happen to all the debris? How do they deal with that? Quite unbelievable. Glad you are keeping well, Jon and thanks for the report. Certainly would be interested to see how the salvage efforts are going - I wouldn't want people to forget about this, like Maui or East Palestine... Stay safe!

We have what they. I'm. call Chinook winds they go from east to west through the Cascade mountains canyon in the '70s we had one for the winds were up to 120 mph miles an hour it took down numerous trees took out homes took 10 buildings down it was picking up rocks off the side of the road and throwing it like it was just sand it's amazing hour I made a mistake it comes from the coast west to east look up the Columbus Day wind storm That's when the i-90 bridge sunk

Wow, I'll have to look that up. Never heard of the Chinook winds.

I noticed that some trees have red paint on them, so the forestry peoples will down those trees.

No, they marked those for the trail so people don't get lost. :)
