@@dfb8854well, why don't you go out there and help instead of criticizing, what do you know? Have you any idea the armount of people that have been affected? At some point we have to recognize in the end the government, as you refer to, are only human, can only do so much and reach only so many people at a time, do you think they're just out there, somewhere else, sitting on their asses??? I've been in this situation and had to wait because they were out helping others and couldn't get to me, I was trapped in a car, water was up to the seat inside and over the window outside, finally the pole lights went out and it was pitch dark, operater was crying and trying to reassure me, responders were helping an elderly couple trapped in their home and too frightened to come out, was I supposed to blame the government??? A creak had unexpectedly risen and gone over the bridge /road, I was about to turn around but the headlights reflection gave the false impression I was looking at a road when in fact it was water, since then I've heard about this phenomenon, stop criticizing what you don't know, my husband and his team have been working on the field towing vehicles of all sorts, shapes and sizes, they were the first ones called, deployed and out there working side by side with government rescuers and all he's said was how amazing, grateful and optimistic people have been, everyone helping each other, all this while I've been safely at home so the next time you want to complain, get off the internet and go out there personally and make a difference.

The torrential rains inundated areas that normally would not be considered flood zones. Being higher doesn’t necessarily mean you escaped the flooding. This much rain creates catastrophic water rise and can flood normally safe zones. That’s what took a lot of people by surprise. I’m sorry for the loss of lives, the damage, the sinking feeling of losing everything and wondering what to do now. The government needs to step in and help. That’s what government is for. To help people recover and rebuild. My prayers are with everyone and many thanks to first responders and volunteers rescuing people and their pets. This will be a long recovery.

What exactly do you think the government is doing? Did you not see the rescuers, the helicopter, etc? There are so many affected everywhere and they're doing everything possible to reach everyone but they top are only human and many of them have also lost everything and yet are still out there helping others, your comment was a good one until you had to throw in there the government as if though they're not doing anything, just sitting around drinking tea, I assure you, they're not, my husband and his team have been out there shortly after the rains allowed them to, they were deployed and have been working non stop with rescuers and no, he does not work for the government but I can tell you personally that help is being provided as quickly as they possibly can, there are just so many people in need it's hard to get to everyone at once, if you really spoke to the people who have been affected, the majority will tell you how grateful they are, not out there complaining, my husband says the kindness and the help from one another in the community is incredible, he tells me, these people have lost EVERYTHING and all they're doing is helping one another and thanking us so please, instead of criticizing, how about we show them some support and gratefulness for what they're doing?

I'm about halfway between Greenville and Spartanburg SC, on US Highway 29 about 40 miles south of Asheville. What amazed me about this storm is how fast - and quietly - the storm actually came through here. For the number of trees down there had to be short distance tornadoes that touched down and weren't even seen or reported. I was still up at 1:30AM on Thursday night / early Friday morning checking updates and the storm then at that hour was crossing into Valdosta, GA. Valdosta is just under 400 miles south of me and is practically on the Georgia - Florida state line. I went to sleep and woke up to strange quiet about 7:30AM Friday morning. The power was out. In any case the storm had already barrelled up that far through Georgia and all of S. Carolina and passed here headed into N. Carolina utterly quietly in barely over 6 hours. The rain was gone by 8:30AM. Much of Greenville and Spartanburg counties very close to me are still without power but I'm absolutely amazed at the THOUSANDS of trees everywhere around here that were knocked down like dominoes. A typical rainstorm here often makes more noise from wind blowing around the corners of my house than I actually heard with Helene (that I totally slept through). That storm somehow traveled nearly 400 miles in 5-1/2 hours leaving the devastation that it left. When the sun was coming out by about noon I actually thought we were just in the eye of the storm and the second half of the storm would be along soon. But that was it. Whatever was left of the hurricane had come through and gone, and FAST.
