Hi Big Al, The boat was never actually put on the barge just lifted enough to clear the sea wall. Then they pivoted the barge away from the sea wall and lowered the boat in the water. We were on a vacant lot. I wish we could have been over on the other side so we could get close ups. Thanks for watching

How badly hit was this neighborhood overall? It looks like overall, the damage in this particular area was pretty minor overall. Either that, or all those home and property owners are really quick and on the ball about getting things cleaned up and repaired.
@KNRAdventures1
@KNRAdventures1 2 жыл бұрын
Homes in Sw Cape Coral mostly was flood (around 10 inches in home in some cases) , pool cage and roof damage. Boats and docks were also hit hard. Nothing like Fort Myers beach or Matlache near Pine Island who suffered tremendous damage.
@LisA-if1ej

It's deceiving too, if you see the front yards, there's damaged property on the curb waiting to be picked up. But yes, the Fort Myers Beach area got hit way harder than this area did.

This happened from Hurricane Ian, 155 mph winds and at least 8 feet of tide surge.
@billlawton1186
@billlawton1186 2 жыл бұрын
Yes,I understand it was surge. But the video shows other vessels that seem undisturbed. If it was surge, then boaters should goon the hard in future storms or tie up to floating docks with tall piling,eh?
@KNRAdventures1
@KNRAdventures1 2 жыл бұрын
Well the 2 marinas near by here had floating docks the docks came apart and the boats floated away with pieces of dock still tied to them. Is this particular case the the pilings that the boat was tied to from a distance looked like a heavy PVC type, I saw at least one was snapped and another one bent over. They were not the typical wood piling .
@billlawton1186
@billlawton1186 2 жыл бұрын
Aha! Someone should do an analysis (Boat US?) discussing what works and what doesn’t. We boaters should be aware of techniques that are successful, and those that aren’t. There is a serious lack of knowledge in the boating community that’s getting worse rather than better. So now we know lesson #1 is dont tie up to a PVC piling! Lesson 2. Monitor your lines when in a static docking situation. (Perhaps consider piling slides). From photos I’ve seen, people need to know to remove canvas-Bimini tops et al…
@KNRAdventures1
@KNRAdventures1 2 жыл бұрын
Another issue in this area particularly is that many of the homes here are secondary vacation homes (not me I live here). I’m willing to guess many of the boats that were damaged and floated away the owners were not even in the state to make those line adjustments etc…

Well to be honest in my 30 plus years of boating many boats do just fine being left in the water and tied well. Around here many of the damaged boats were in boat lifts. My boat was left in the water at my dock. I put a few extra long lines to allow for storm surge and extreme tides. I don’t have a scratch on mine. But either way is no guarantee.
@justoutoftime511
@justoutoftime511 2 жыл бұрын
It might be possible the owners were up north. It was not quite time for the snow birds to head south for the winter with this storm. There are boat owners that just don’t have a clue how to tie up a boat to deal with weather.
