Hurricane Irma Preparations At Walt Disney World | Magic Kingdom & Hollywood Studios

In today's vlog we head to Walt Disney World to check out the Hurricane Irma prep at Magic Kingdom & Hollywood Studios. We didn't see much of a change in crowd level or park appearance with the upcoming storm. We also got a chance to check out some ride wait times and some new Star Wars merchandise. PORGS! Diane Zaballero actually some cast members may sleep down there if they work clean up after the hurricane passes. It all depends on the severity of the weather and damage extent.

The tunnels aren't really tunnels, they're at ground level. They really can't flood. They have a drainage system that takes water out and are built higher than the entrance to them in most places so water can't go down them.

It would make more sense for people to stay inside the castle. It's hurricane rated. If water levels rise there could be some flooding in the tunnels. Not enough to really drown anyone, but nobody wants to be standing in a pool of water.

Schools are often built to work as shelters. Portables wouldn't be safe but the main buildings are often made of stone.

A lot of locals checked into the resorts to leave their homes for the storm. I have some friends that checked in with their families to distract the kids and also take shelter. The parks where a ghost town but the videos from their stay are magical. Disney has gone above and beyond. =)

Stay safe, Tim. We checked out of Coronado Springs this morning. The lobby parking lot was full of tree trimming crews and trucks and there were two trucks located next to each guest building. We saw another 10 trucks at the Speedway gas station as we were leaving property. I also noticed yesterday that they started wrapping all of the street lights around World Showcase with plastic wrap -- perhaps to keep them from filling with water. Stay safe!

WDW is actually one of the safest if not the safest place during a hurricane in Florida. A lot of people evacuated from the coast are staying at WDW. The parks will provide some much needed last minute entertainment and fun before the storm.

diggity0607 I've mainly heard it in theater. Where it's the thin backdrop curtain that looks solid but can be lit from behind and be see through. Also from google: strong, coarse fabric, chiefly used for heavy-duty lining or upholstery Which certainly fits the way Tim uses it with the fabric covering scaffolding and fences.
