You guys were still blessed somehow that the storm has downgraded to Cat 3 when it made landfall. It was almost as strong as Sypertyphoon Haiyan when it was still at Cat 5. The Philippines in 2013 was not this fortunate. Prayers, guys. 🙏

If anyone thinks that the homes in Florida are all the same, they aren't. Some of the newer homes suck and what you are looking at in the beginning of the video are mobile homes. That type of housing cannot withdraw and kind of major winds even if it's from a strong tropical storm.

Can you believe a typhoon/hurricane 🌀 in the mountains 😫😮⁉️ I thought we were all going to DIE😢 The entire house was shaking. There was a baby 🍼 with us. Most other single family residences are built with concrete block, and wood frame roofs. Much more sturdy. Probably not fully up to cat5 hurricane strength code, but the odds of that happening are very slim

New builds are also very unaffordable because of all the other regulations and impact fees. The only way to do this affordably is to build your own home, or just live more inland.

What you see is low cost housing. In the wake of Hurricane Andrew in 1992 Florida passed stricter codes for wind in building mobile homes. Still, no match for water and wind. I have a relative that owned a mobile home and it withstood Hurricane Katrina. We were very surprised to see it standing. No one I know with a mobile home lost it to Katrina. Hard to explain some things.

@@calibrik basically. A lot of those look like mobile homes. They're made off site then moved in on big trucks. People buy the "house" and rent the land. Which is a terrible deal. Especially since mobile homes count as vehicles not houses. So they go down in value rather than up. Plus, the landlord can raise the rent on the land and basically take your house if you can't afford the few thousand dollars it takes to have the home moved.

I am looking into buying a "shipping container" house here in the Philippines which will be attached to concrete piers and the builder said it will be safe in a typhoon. Although we don't generally get really bad typhoons we have had some flooding but if I get a two story container home I could stay in the top floor during a minor flood.
