Hurricane Milton will be "an event like none other," Tampa mayor warns

The mayor of Tampa, Florida, and top FEMA officials gave an update Monday on preparations for Hurricane Milton. The storm is predicted to make landfall in Tampa on Wednesday. The mayor urged people in evacuation zones to get out before the storm hits. FEMA administrator Deanne Criswell said emergency personnel are already on the ground providing support for the aftermath of Helene and will be moved as needed.

On Thursday, all the models showed a very basic low pressure system with no signs of a hurricane forming 5 days out. The thing we are witnessing is the result of a hotter gulf and a more chaotic system in general, which are all signs scientists have been warning us about my entire 43 year old life, of what we can expect with a warming Earth.

I dealt with Fema when Ian directly hit where I live and destroyed my home. They gave me $750 immediately and were pretty good about providing more help throughout the process. The $750 was though an immediate first payment to give you something and not all they did

PREP ✅YES PANIC ❌NO Lived in Central Florida, 2004 we saw hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne. I lived in a timber home (log cabin) on a wooded acre lot. Had a creek in the back that flooded. Before it was all over; the catfish were swimming down my flooded street. Had some crawdads swimming in my swimming pool; and 22 trees down in the yard. Spent a few weeks without utility line power. It was pretty rough that summer, all the trees down and people burning debris, no power… neighbors walking around with tombstones in their eyes, sort of like in shock. It was a surreal scene. It looked like a battle had been done there in my neighborhood. I’ll always have that image in my head. Good luck Florida people, evacuate if you get the word to! I’ve lived in Florida all my life and have seen the devastation of hurricane Andrew and all the storms that came after and I can tell you that even a category 1 can do major damage and leave you without power for weeks. I hope everyone takes this storm serious. Even those 40-50 miles from the coast should not stay. Modern hurricanes are a whole new animal and very unpredictable. Please don’t take any chances. I pray for no fatalities.
