We did a custom door for a customer here in Ontario Canada that was 24 wide x 18 tall and it faced the lake so as per the engineers recommendation we bolt and welded the track to the metal door frame and put 3 inch struts on each panel the top middle and bottom panels struts had cables to add tension to prevent bowing. And 11guage double end hinges it was one heavy door.

Definitely go with a strut on each section preferably 3" and have a center post that could be put in when the weather is bad.

Center post is a great idea 💡

That’s a C strut with straps to what you see on the hurricane doors

I have a house down in Florida. I had to put a hurricane door on it. It is a non-insulated. It’s a Clopay It’s not that bad.

I’d put a 3” strut on every panel, with double end hinges, all 11 gauge hinges with long stem rollers. I think insulated is better to, minimum 1-3/4” thick.

Is this a beginner class

As long as the bottom section doesn't fold. The door will be ok. In Minnesota a regular 16ft door gets one 3 inch strut on each section. And long stem rollers on the bottom to account for bowing. Rated for 80mph wind. Depending on manufacturer. Wayne dalton puts 2 3 inch struts on the bottom of the door. And extra hinges.

Here in Mississippi, Wayne Dalton 16' door gets one strut on top section

@gsxr600rafii yeah. I'm jealous. In Minnesota they have to have a strut on each section. 7 hinges on each section. The roller carriers mount to the struts and there are 4 jam brackets. It takes a lot more time to deal with all that.

@@alexmov2947 no, we have zero wind issues here. 96% of doors here are pan and minimal struts. We offer more struts as an upgrade, but they don't come with the doors.

@@gsxr600rafii I understand that. That's because your state doesn't require your doors to withstand 80mph winds.
