That is sure a tight fit. Nice that they put bushings everywhere. Doing an in car installation must test a persons patience.

That's why I say to pre fit the bracket and shifter body as a unit. Bolting the bracket to the trans without the shifter, makes no sense.

Hey great videos! I have a 68 firebird that someone swapped out the auto and started to put an 81 super t10 in. It has what looks to be a factory hurst competition plus ( I’m guessing ). Would the kit with the shift rods and levers fit the same on the t10 as the Muncie? The rods I have are for the 81 trans am that it came out of and the tunnel is way to tight for them to fit and the levers are straight instead of offset. Thanks!

You would need to contact me if you want something to work with the 68. Do you plan on putting a 4 speed console in? The muncie will not work. Contact me. Info is in video description or actually in every video!

I have the same shifter, question the older hurst shifters had a main bolt holding all the pieces together. Is there a torque specification on this? Holly could not tell me. Shifter isc2 old no information on it. Thanks
@GearBoxVideo2 жыл бұрын
People are always asking for torque specs and here is my simple answer. Simply search for "Bolt Torque Table" . These tables use to be in older service manuals and factory overhaul manuals. The bolts supplied are Grade 5 with 7/16-20 and 3/8-24 threads. Since the mounting plate is steel you should be OK with standard measurements. One can get into a problem more with aluminum mount plates that are old with damaged threads or corroded threads. Never start cranking down. Tighten gradually.

HEY PAUL, JUST INSTALLED THE SHIFTER. I HAVE 1,2,3,4 BUT NO REVERSE. SHIFTING ARM IS NOT HITTING THE TUNNEL PLENTY OF ROOM. FROM NEUTRAL THE SHIFT ARM WILL NOT GO LEFT. JUST FAR ENOUGH TO SHIFT FIRST AND SECOND. IT WILL MOVE LEFT FOR 3.4 SHIFT. WHAT AM I MISSING? ALSO DO YOU MAKE A BIGGER BOOT I HAVE TO STRETCH THE BOOT TO CLEAR THE BOLT THAT HOLDS THE SHIFTER HANDLE.

Your ordered the correct shifter for your car. Sometimes you have to adjust the shifter on the mount. There is also this problem with these cars. In your order you failed to tell me what exact car you had. We did not sell you the install kit. However if you have a BIG BLOCK car the u-bolt type mount will not work. If someone changed the floors in the car usllay they are off.

You may want to speak to the person who rebuilt your transmission. It's not uncommon to get new synchro rings that don't fit old gears properly.

Hello I hope you can help me out, I have a 69 nova that I have bought and installed a M20. The transmission has bolt on shifter combs and i purchased a Hurst competition plus shifter and it looked correct. I still have not been able to drive the car yet do to it’s not completed yet but close. I took the car to a speed shop for some work and when I got it back it would not shift. After watching your video again i dove in and removed the 1-2 and 3-4 arms and noticed that they don’t fit well, i put the neutral pin in and it was in the neutral position but was in 3rd gear. Then with a wrench tried to get the shifter rods to move and it took quite a bit to get them to move. Sorry for the long story but I need the shifter arm adapters you sell. Can you let me know if you still sell them and how much . Thanks Darrel

Is there a way to adjust the forward throw for 1st and 3rd? I can't put the console plate on because it hits the plate when shifting into 1st and 3rd. My guess would be the adjustment of the shifter on the mount plate? (BTW the console is as far forward as it can go)
@GearBoxVideo6 жыл бұрын
The mount plate for the Hurst on the 67-68 allows rotation. Rotating it completely clockwise and realigning it should help.

I bought a Saginaw 4 speed recently for a project with a Hurst Competition Plus shifter on it...It supposedly came out of a 1970 Camaro...The shifter must be an "economy" unit because there are no provisions for the stop bolts and lock nuts to limit the shift handle travel...Also the holes in the shifter arms on the shifter itself and on the transmission levers are not large enough to accept the Hurst bushings...The anti rattle arm retaining clips fit fine...I had to drill out the spot welds on the handle to remove the stick...there were no bolts...was this a common shifter used by the factory?..If so, it does seem kinda cheap and not what I'd expect from a quality Hurst shifter...Any ideas?...Thank you.
@GearBoxVideo6 жыл бұрын
Hurst made non bushed stripped down versions for OEM. It's not after market and usually the car manufacturers want as cheap as possible.
