All of Vol 1 and volume 2 tell a story. Best to listen start to finish. I feel like the video/song "How we end up alone" Is the whole story wrapped up in one. My absolute favorite band... there's so much depth and emotion in every song. Thanks for the reaction!

I agree, I seen them live back in the late 2000's and they killed it live.

Haven't taken the time to listen to this song in quite some time. Not becuase i don't absolutely love it, but because it's so haunting, so emotional, that i have to be in a place where I'm not busy and can pay attention and really feel the song, because it honestly makes me cry. The lyrics, the performance... i don't know what else to say. It's an experience.

I take this not so much as a song about honoring a marriage and longing for somebody in that marriage, but a relationship that turned sour and she ultimately dies. I believe this is a part 2 to Rapture by them, or at least that is how I see it. Hence the "if you're not breathing why am I? With a sad and lonely comfort of the hollow in your eyes" and the "your face I'll never see no more" lines. The "house carpenter" I believe is referential to Jesus (again, a reference back to Rapture) and she is "with" the House Carpenter in that she is dead.

I always felt this song was about a man who fell in love with a woman who devoted herself to God and became a nun.
@Ghost70659 ай бұрын
No, it's about a poem. A literal house carpenter. But the poem is different from this version. In the poem, the woman leaves her carpenter and her child behind to be with a rich man. This song is from the perspective of the rich man.

Love you guys both your band and your reactions are so badass ❤️

Agreed that this song would be great in a movie or tv show. Seems like the outro for some dark FX drama, where there’s clips of multiple storylines, with people fighting, crying alone, leaving each other, and at the end of it someone dies.

This song in a movie would depict doom and despair. No getting her back. No seeing her again. No happy ending.

This song is about a woman devoting her life to Christ over him. He would give her everything, but the carpenter has her heart, and he will never have the love he gives to her. The last seconds of the song is her lying to him and he knows it

If you listen to rapture before this one and put 2 and 2 together it seems that Christ is the house carpenter and she took her own life to be with Christ instead of him

Jesus is the "house carpenter" no joke. Hurt is absolutely amazing, but even moreso when you recognize the prevalent anti religious message

If you want a similar style of song, I would highly recommend Alone with the Sea by Hurt. Also, the songs that others mentioned are also fantastic choices; Overdose, Falls Apart, and my personal favourite song, Got Jealous.

Very melodic song, intreging variation in calmness and emotional vocal parts, would Johnny Cash R.I.P. have been proud if he could have listened to this band carrying the name of his last performed song ?

First off I'm not religious, but what it Jesus it the house carpenter, and the eyes he keeps looking in is a terminial ill person. or in my case pet. Yes I used this song to grieve a dog.
@baileymoran8585 Жыл бұрын
It is. A central theme of the song is the narrator (the vocalist) being in love with a woman who takes religion to a very unstable level, almost like a cult. It gets darker on other songs. Check out the album version of ‘rapture’ by them.
@baileymoran8585 Жыл бұрын
Also, yeah. I’ve used it too grieve a dog as well. I can talk about friends who passed about a year or so after it happens but I still can’t talk about my first dog without crying, 6 years later. They are truly their own brand of family!

Nice to see more people reacting to this. If you guys are still checking the comments of this one, consider that the "house carpenter" may also refer to Jesus Christ.
