The Christmas tree is absorbed from the winter solstice party. They put stuff on the tree then burned it at the end of the night. Maybe a video talking about and showing the standard Christmas fare stalls. Like is there a standard set of booths that you find at most of them? Also youtube recommended your geography quiz. A round 2 would be great!!

Keep going Clare - Vlogmas rocks. The modern Christmas tree, originated in western Germany. The main prop of a popular medieval play about Adam and Eve was a “paradise tree,” a fir tree hung with apples, that represented the Garden of Eden. The Germans set up a paradise tree in their homes on December 24, the religious feast day of Adam and Eve. They hung wafers on it (symbolizing the eucharistic host, the Christian sign of redemption); in a later tradition the wafers were replaced by cookies of various shapes. Candles, symbolic of Christ as the light of the world, were often added. In the same room was the “Christmas pyramid,” a triangular construction of wood that had shelves to hold Christmas figurines and was decorated with evergreens, candles, and a star. By the 16th century the Christmas pyramid and the paradise tree had merged, becoming the Christmas tree

One tip a tree seller here told me to do to keep the tree hydrated is to use straight hot water. He said it dissolves the sap that collects at the cut stump and allows the tree to absorb the water for longer. He was right!! That was the first year our tree stayed green, smelling wonderful, and almost no needle fallout.

I’ve been wondering why you hadn’t shown us your Christmas Tree yet. I’m glad Alex put his foot down and said “wife!… we are doing the tree TODAY! Mostly surprised you capitulated. Hope it helps you get in more of the Christmas spirit! But, one would think, after already having gone to not one, but TWO Christmas parties already this season. Always enjoy your video’s and the fact you share your life with the world. Good, bad, or grinchy. Curious, what is the thing this year with a truck and a Christmas tree? Hey, how about a ride around town looking at the Christmas lights and decorations? That could be fun! 😊🎄🤶🏻🎅

She saw the red truck thing on either TikTok or Instagram. They're everywhere here. But apparently not in Ireland 😅. If I had known sooner, I would've sent her something, but she hasn't said exactly what she's looking for, either. An ornament? Pillows? Just a little ceramic décor item?

Beautiful tree! I love that type of pine tree, its my favorite. I don't like these thick bushy ones.......I mean you can't really HANG anything on it, the ornaments just LAY there. But on these, theres space between the branches and ornaments can actually hang there, and look dazzling! He picked a GREAT tree! I hope it stays beautiful for a long time.

I haven’t put up a tree in many years. It was too much of a hassle to barricade it from my dogs so I stopped. They would chew up all the decorations 😑. Do they have any holiday markets near you? Getting a Christmas tree is one of those things that's mainly fun after the fact. The process of choosing a tree I quite like, carrying it and fitting it into your car is not so much fun with it sticking right into your face and then trying to get it stable enough in the stand when they haven't cut the base off straight for you and your handsaw is like 70 years old and so you end up having to tie it to your curtain rail AND somehow get it to be straight and after all of that it breaks you out into hives all up your arms from touching the damn thing....Well that's another story. I swear, if it wasn't so pretty and festive and smelled so nice I would never bother. 😂

I love the contrast in attitudes! While I must admire Alex's noble efforts to preserve the holiday spirit, I also must admit that I'm on your side. I was over the holiday season a month ago. Christmas cheer feels mandatory, somehow. I have exactly one holiday decoration in my place: Charlie Brown's Christmas tree. That's a tiny artificial tree, with one small red ornament hanging off it, just like in the cartoon. That's enough Xmas cheer for me, outside of what comes in a bottle from my favorite distillery. Thanks for sharing this fun video with us! PS: the purple hat looks great on you!

Salutations Claire As always entertaining and adorable, even when you are in a mood it is a very nice tree. Just hope it does not interfere with that door opening. The tradition of bringing trees inside to decorate came from Protestant Christians in the Baltic Nations and parts of Central Europe (Estonia, what is now Latvia, Germany, Austria, etc. Moravian Christians introduced the idea of illuminating the tree with candles. (thou I wonder how they kept the tree and house from burning. hehehe) it was eventually replaced with string of lights after electricity was mass produced. Yet, the use of the tree is considered more a Lutheran Tradition.

The custom of hanging things from trees comes from Estonia where trees in 1400s were set on fire by a local group of guilds men (the black heads) to cheer up the locals. The older guildsmen of the town did not like this as it could have set the town on fire, so following years they forbid setting tree on fire and so they put candles in glass jars hanging from the trees. And thus the hanging of decorations and lights on Christmas trees.
@joe90d2 Жыл бұрын
And Estonian tradesmen were Germanic and thus probably why it was also a tradition later in Germany also.

Two thoughts I had watchin this. I just went to an ornament swap last weekend for the first time. And the only one there that people weren't fighting over was an ornament of cousin. Eddie's R. V. It's steel and pretty heavy. And I texted my niece to see if she wanted to because she adores that movie!

@drew-gf4ng I mostly do seashells ornaments on my tree and the only 2 at the party that would have fit were a huge ball of coral dyed Aqua green, which would have been too big and a hand blown glass ornament from the glass workers downtown. Which was crystal and navy blue and my guess was that that glass ornament was very large and probably heavy should have been a paper weight. I decided to make my niece happy and give her cousin Eddie's R. V.! They named their dog Fast Eddie. Because his original name was Buddy and every time her husband said. "Hey, buddy, come here", both his two-year-old son and the dog would come! 😄 So they needed a new name for him. They had adopted him just before Christmas. They decided to call him "Fast Eddy" because he's fast and because he crashed their Christmas like Cousin Eddie!

I went to an ornament swap this year for the first time. I didn't see anything that would go on my tree, since I mostly use seashells sprayed with glitter and blue lights. But someone had donated an ornament from the national lampoon Christmas vacation, it's a metal ornament of cousin Eddie's R V. I quickly texted my niece and she said she wanted it, so when my turn came, instead of picking a gift, I went and stole that one!

I feckin' HATE christmas. I'm willing enough to do get-togethers with senior members of our families, but now that the kids are gone, I thankfully no longer have to celebrate it in my house. I've even corrupted my partner, so at most I have to put up with a few lights for a couple of days. I do, however, celebrate solstice and equinox--a habit that developed when we were farming. The movement of the seasons seems far more worth paying attention to than some stupid made up day.
