The apostle Paul said that a woman's glory is her hair, so it was really significant for Mary to use her hair to wipe his feet. It was the ultimate act of reverence and humility on her part.

When David is given the lamb at the beginning, he anoints the lambs feet with oil as part of the preparation to sacrifice in 5 days. When Mary poured the oil on Jesus´s feet, that is done in preparation for the sacrifice in the same day, same timing prior to sacrifice. Amazing!

During the dinner scene between Pilate & Herod, there's a talk about killing Lazarus. According to the early Christian tradition, there was a plot to kill Lazarus by the Jews who rejected Jesus. Lazarus, Martha, & Mary managed to flee from Judea & ended up in Cyprus. Some traditions said they also went to France & baptised the Gauls. They met Barnabas & Paul in Cyprus. Later, Lazarus was appointed by Paul & Barnabas to be a leader/bishop in a town called Kition (now called Larnaka). In the 890 A.D, people found his 2nd grave after almost 2 centuries lost under the Muslim invasions. The grave had an inscription: "Lazarus friend of Jesus." A small part of his relic was taken by a Russian monk in the 16th century A.D after he visited Larnaka & now in a monastery in Pskov, Russia.

During the Chosen “Aftershow” (exclusively on the app) Dallas said a future season will show some former unbelievers filled with remorse after realizing their roles in the Messiah’s death. Maybe Shmuel will be one of these characters? Also the Hebrews began Passover sacrifices on the 9th hour (3 pm), the same time Jesus died. The Chosen seems to leave no historical stone unturned. As always, I greatly appreciated your deep conversations! 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏

There were Pharisees who became Christians in the Book of Acts. It's shown during the Apostolic Council in Jerusalem. However, those Pharisees were the ones who pushed the idea that for gentiles to be Christian they should be Jews first by fully doing Jewish traditions.

I’m of the mind that First of all, if you’re watching, a television show, you’re not in a Bible study class.Dallas has always been upfront about the fact that it is a TV show that follows the intention of the gospels but it’s not word for word gospel driven. So all the Pharisees and Sadducees out there that live to carve their pieces of truth out of this show to examine, should be watching something else. How do you appreciate something so creative, so sincere, and so beautiful when all you’re doing is watching looking for problems. I love this show and will watch it until it’s all done. This show has gotten me into the gospels more than I ever was, has helped deepen my Catholic faith and provided high quality entertainment without being preachy or offensive. I love its humor and it’s bold love of God. See you in Season 5!

Remember when Judas told his sister that if Jesus is the Messiah, He can’t be killed. I think that Judas still believes Jesus is the conquering king and a military warrior like David. He feels that if he hands Jesus over to the Roman’s that Jesus will have to fight. Judas was very misguided just like Schmuel.
@rbrainsop14 ай бұрын
This is my take on it, too. I think he'll justify it to himself as trying to help Jesus become the leader he's "supposed" to be (just like his old mentor said to him in their conversation this season)

The Bible says that Judas didn't really care about using the money for the poor, but he said it because he was stealing the money. Notice that in The Chosen he first says they could have used it for expenses, and only added the poor when Schmeul did.

Jesus had said He would restore the "Temple" in three days, like the story of Jonah. He predicted His death several times. Still no one really understood that. And they would never expect him to die. The Jews could not believe that God could die. That is why the Incarnation is so important. God as God cannot die, but God as man can. That is why fully God and fully man is what Christians believe about Jesus.
@chrisinolympiawa92954 ай бұрын
The hope is that if they become interested in Jesus, they will read the Bible, go to church, research more. The first thing people were upset about was Jesus winking at Barnaby in the 2nd episode. There is a Proverb somewhere that mentions winking, but they interpreted it that winking (in and of itself regardless of intent) is evil, so Jesus would never wink. Dallas just laughed at that.

There was a teaching by some Rabbis back then - and some Jews still believe it - that there would be TWO Messiahs. They did not even imagine the resurrection, so, according to Isaiah & other profits, there would be the Suffering Messiah & then the Conquering Messiah. That's why John The Baptist asked "Are you THE ONÉ? Ór do We look for another?" Jesus answer to him was that the blind see, the lame walk, etc, which were all prophesied of the Conquering Messiah. John knew Jesus was The Lamb Of God - the Suffering Messiah. Jesus was saying "It's just me! I'm the Suffering & Conquering Messiah!" Today there are some Jews who believe Jesus died for their sins, but deny the resurrection & are looking for the Conquering Messiah to come soon. They don't equate Messiah with being God in the flesh. None of the Desciples seemed to be of that persuasion, but then they'd heard His answer to John. But they definitely didn't understand the resurrection until after it happened. And they were locked away, scared they would be next to be killed. We've heard the story for years, but can you imagine when they first saw Him standing in their room after they saw Him die?!? 😲 Their hearts must've been beating out of their chests & their blood pressure sky high! 😅

The person you saw enter the city initially was King David and later the Queen and the son of King David were in the scene. The sacrifice of a spotless Lamb is an atonement for sin. Jesus later (1000 years later), becomes the sacrificial Lamb of God.

I liked you guys talking about how people felt about Jesus practicing the sermon on the mount. And yeah, I agree that yes they were upset and thought it just made him a man coming up with the sermon. But I Just wanted to say that yes, this is something that is hard to understand. Yes he was a MAN creating the sermon, but that is the paradox of Jesus. He is fully MAN and still fully GOD. So, of course, he would practice. In his humanity. He is making sure he is saying what he wants to say. In his divinity, he knows what he wants to say. It just makes it more obvious that God and Jesus are, as Andrew pointed out in ep 2, a mystery. Fully GOD and yet fully MAN, is a hard concept even for believers. ❤

I love The Chosen however, I have been really perturbed that with all the incredible stories they could have focused on, they decided to make up an entire theme that ran through this season based on Thomas over Rama’s death, even though this never happened. Portraying Thomas as a angry man because Jesus failed him is blatantly untrue, and there was NO reason to start this fictional soap opera inside a true storie..
@PhilipManzano2 ай бұрын
Yeah, I felt a little bit of this going through the season myself. It felt odd at first. But for me, The Chosen is a bit more than just a word for word retelling of the bible. I’ve always seen it as a reflection of modern day Christianity with examples of how to walk with Jesus - good seasons and bad. Just through the proxy of the disciples. Seeing Thomas struggle with faith or wonder why God helps some in obvious ways and not others- it’s a very real thing. And I feel like this version of Thomas can actually provide such a great example to people who can empathize. The faith bends but doesn’t break. He’s still there walking with Jesus. And I think that’s powerful to show.
@rayberke28362 ай бұрын
@@PhilipManzano They had already made up the entire story about Simon being angry over the miscarriage or still birth by his wife Eden, so the Thomas and Ramah story that was dragged out through the entire season was not only a complete and utter falsehood, but totally unnecessary. There are so many true stories throughout the Bible and they use flashbacks sometimes (King David for example) that it boggles my mind why they blatantly (I hate to use this word but) Lie about the apostles (Simon and Thomas). I honestly love the show but it seems to me that as each season goes on, they are becoming more of a soap opera of fictional side stories. I don’t mind having the story lines that are interesting but unimportant like James being jealous of his brother John over Thomas’s friendship, or Mary going back to drinking and being brought back by Simon and Matthew. However the portrayal of a murder of Thomas’s betrothed and his rage and anger at Jesus completely took away from the story of Lazarus being risen from the dead and focused this miracle of miracles on how Thomas would react! It verged on blasphemy of a saint. Lastly, because of this false story line, I’m betting that they use this false angle as the reason that Thomas becomes known as doubting Thomas. It’s really sad.
@PhilipManzano2 ай бұрын
Really appreciate the time and thought in the response. I can totally see where you’re coming from. Especially like the examples you pointed out about the fictional side stories that don’t really have stakes. That can be the area for them to flex their creative liberty. It makes a lot of sense. And I can see why it would make people upset. With Ramah already being fictional, I guess I already accepted that there were going to be falsehoods in the storyline and just started looking for meaning/lessons in it despite that. I still think there was a ton of great, relatable storytelling in here that helps with a Christian walk. But I can totally see why people would feel contrary.
