Huskee 22 ton log splitter not running good and leaking fuel. Let’s fix it!

It will be that time of year before we know it and this log splitter needs some love before it’s ready to use. Let’s open it up and see what we find!

you said there was no choke. But there is an "auto" choke as I understand it. The wire with the loop in it causes it to choke, ostensibly for start-up. But I don't see how it works.

The wire with the little loup goes to the governor. If it was an auto choke (ready start), it would have a large flat arm going towards the muffler. The arm contacts a thermostat on the muffler and has a "wind vane" for the engine cooling air to push on it. This primer start just adds a bit of extra fuel instead of choking. They also made them in manual choke which I never understood why they weren't more popular compared to the other two styles.

@@tangydiesel1886 Thanks for that explanation, while I don't fully understand (probably cause I'm electrical not mechanical) your logic sounds reasonable. I'm helping a friend and we cannot start without starter fluid and then the motor quits after 4 to 5 minutes. We'll keep plugging away or ultimately buy a new motor. Thanks!!!

Thank you for watching. When a small engine has a primer or purge bulb there is no choke. Not even and auto choke.

Where is the oil. Filter ? 1:05

There is no oil filter except for the hydraulic oil filter that’s shown hanging down from the tank on the opposite side of the engine.
