I had a husky. From 8 weeks to his natural end 11 years on. Beautiful dog well behaved when in the house & in fenced in yards. He never turned down an opportunity to bolt out an open door or gate. Ran until he dropped. He had no idea as to how to find his way home. Always had to be tracked down. Always happy to be found. Always happy for my then toddler daughter to free him yet again.

The best pup we ever had was found at Lowe’s in the parking lot. He loved everybody and like your Balto he got into everything he could possibly reach. He taught us some good life lessons. Just two of them are that he taught us how to live with less (because he ate everything he could get into) and he taught us the value of laughter. They don’t live forever unfortunately so your story is very encouraging to me. Just love him.

We rescue a little Sheltie that was abandoned. She had been eating out of garbage cans for weeks. Every garbage day there would be rows of tipped over garbage cans that she had investigated. She was given a great home but they never could break her of getting into the indoor garbage can. An animal that has been starving for a long time and thinks that garbage is a food source has a difficult time getting over that even though well fed.
@linda-louiseanthony19795 ай бұрын
You are so right about that. Once an animal has gone hungry for any period of time, it's really hard to train it out of them. I have a little miniature Dachshund called Megsy. I rescued her in 2013, when I was told she was around 6 years of age. She looked absolutely terrible, and was half starved. All her spine and ribs were showing. She had a microchip, but her owners didn't want her back, because she 'kept getting out'. 😢 She kept getting out because she was just thrown out in the backyard, and not given any love or enrichment. She was barely even fed. Because of this, she has terrible separation anxiety, and she also acts like every meal is her last. We use a slow feeder, so she takes her time with her meals. We find it almost impossible to leave her alone. I separated from my ex partner after 15 years a very long time ago now, so we share custody of her the same way we would a child. We have a couple of people that we can trust that she also trusts, that we can get to look after her. She gets along famously with my 2 rescue Cats, Olly and and Rocket as well. Olly is the large Tabby and While male that is the cat on my thumbnail picture, and Rocket is a little 3 legged Grey Tabby lady. She lost her rear right leg in some sort of accident prior to us adopting her. Rocket, like Megsy, came from the streets. When we first bought her home, we noticed that she was 'burying' her food. She would kind of swipe at the place mat to simulate that she was covering it up somehow. Rocket, the little darling, has grown out of now though. We've just celebrated her first 'gotcha' day. To help her learn that there will always be plenty of food we leave a bowl of biscuits out for them as well. That's on top of the two meals they get morning and evening. We need to feed both cats up on the laundry bench. Otherwise, Megsy will eat all their food as well. We have to really watch Meg's weight as she had surgery on her back in 2014 that cost almost $8,000, and we didn't have insurance. Thankfully she made a full recovery and has remained in excellent health since. We got some more positive news recently, after Megsy had some very expensive dental surgery. She needed 7 teeth out! As this vet was a specialist who dealt in teeth, he also knew more about accurately ageing dogs. He had put her younger than what we had originally thought, ageing her around 14 years old at the beginning of this year. He said that because she was in such poor condition when we adopted her, that sometimes that can lead to their age being mis-diagnosed. So we got and extra couple of years with her, which we are so thrilled about. I'm glad your little Sheltie doesn't have to worry about where her next meal is coming from any longer. Much love to you and your fur kids from Melbourne Australia ❤🇦🇺

Husky’s are the BEST dogs! Especially if you love their singing, hearing, sight, and jumping! I realized my Samantha needed to be on a leash inside our fenced-in yard, bc she would jump it and just run!! Yet come home every single time, ALWAYS w/a “gift” for me like a chicken bone! She loved to lay in the snow in the winter and w/she learned we had plastic screens she cud tear w/her nails, she wud tear it, shove her head out of it until her whole body cud get out. Thn she wud run thru the front yard, jumping at low flying pigeons. And if she caught 1, she wud hav it under her paw waiting for me! After that, we could only have the upper screens open and close the bottom window! Super smart dogs!♥️

That is SO sweet! I love this dog! Smart being! And I like that attitude "no matter the challenges, they are worth it"! It's so funny, that was my dog when she was young. Nothing was on the floor, everything on the shelves, this got better after about 3-4 years. We just have to check that there is no chocolate or dangerous stuff lying around on the tables now when we are gone for a while, because she is damn smart and gets it, even if she is just a very small beagle. She is so smart, she gets everything she wants. And she doesn't really rip packages open, she kinds of open bags and eats one slice after another... she did that with bread... if my dog doesn't greet me when I come home... I know that I forgot something on the table and she is enjoying herself... And when she doesn't like something, she just spits it out... we tried hiding her pills in her food once and she just kind of got it out of the food within her mouth and just spit the pill out... it was hilarious.
