Ya there are a small amount of tools that get used 99% of the time and a large amount that get used 1% of the time but I suppose those are just as important. Maybe you could duct tape a shop rag to your belly 🙂 BTW I've been thinking about another tool box update.

At the 2:38 mark more or less of this video, I got what I exactly needed. Was trying to replace the primer bulb in a 4 year old 445, and I just needed to know about releasing the carburetor assembly from those little rubber saddles, so that I could get it loose enough to get my fingers in and put the fuel lines back on the replacement bulb. Temperature and elevation can effect the need for adjusting the carb but those screws don't just move on their own (usually) so if the saw acts different in a similar environment then I assume something else is causing it. Sometimes just an adjustment is all thats needed but other times as in this video it can be a blockage in the carb. The trick is doing it enough times to have a good idea which way to proceed. Thanks for watching!

We has a local vetran that took his old husky into the local saw shop,they procedded to dismantle the saw and told him that is was junk, He went and went to a differnt shop bought a newer saw ,he then tumed around and me and gave the saw to me to do what ever with , I was puzzled because the saw had a nice fuel color and spark plug look amazing pistton was good ,Took the fuel line off and low and behold the fuel line was bad,so I re assembled the saw with a new fuel line and new carb kit, saw started and ran perfect,he was so happy I fixed and wanted to pay me ,I told him I will not take any money from a vateran.

I don't understand shops that do this. Either the mechanic sucks or they just want to sell a new saw. The thing is, we make more money on repairs than new saw sales so I don't get it. Good on you for fixing that mans saw.

Removed carb and cleaned well, everything looked good. The bulb seems to seal. I sucked fuel from the tank without issue….yuk!! Put back together. Primer bulb felt firm. @TheGreasyShopRag Жыл бұрын
You might want to look at the basic tune up routine first. Fuel filter, air filter, spark arrestor screen. Also observe the chain while pulling the starter cord. If it wants to move then you have clutch/oiler drive issues that will make starting difficult.

I’ve got a 240 that will start after priming and with the choke on. It will rev up and idle fine but then dies. Pump the primer again and it will start again but then die. I’ve put a new carb on but the fuel line from the tank is a smaller line than the other 2. Is that correct? I’m thinking the carb is running out of fuel.
@TheGreasyShopRag Жыл бұрын
Check that new carb. Sometimes aftermarket carbs use the wrong gasket and the impulse hole doesn't line up correctly.
@steveriggenbach90 Жыл бұрын
I’ve been working on a 445 and setting the carb. During the initial setup nobody talks about the fast idle screw. How do you primarily set all the screws? Have a great holiday and take care.
@TheGreasyShopRag Жыл бұрын
Every piece of equipment will be different but the key factor would to not have the idle screw turned in so far that the throttle plate is now exposing any above idle fuel circuit. If you have to hold your finger on the trigger to keep it running then bring the idle up enough to release your finger. On the low jet, find that point between between lean and rich then add some rich, adjust idle screw as needed. Check for off idle bog and richen as necessary...adjust idle again if needed.
@steveriggenbach90 Жыл бұрын

I may be incorrect, but that fuel pump diaphragm doesn't seem to be the best choice for a chain saw. Rubber is a better pumper but doesn't like alcohol in gas. The Teflon ones are also good pumpers and can tolerate the alcohol better. The stiff plastic like one you used can handle the alcohol but is not as good a pumper...I have heard; better for trimmers. I am switching to Teflon as I clean my saw carbs. from now on.
@TheGreasyShopRag7 ай бұрын
Thats probably a good plan but in this case I didn't have a choice. There was one choice and it matched the pump that came new with the saw.
@markluxton34027 ай бұрын
@@TheGreasyShopRag I only just learned of the differences, though I wondered why my kits had identical diaphragms but different materials. I find it odd that they only provide a Teflon fuel pump, but not a metering diaphragm. It looks like Walbro makes a long lasting metering diaphragm replacement for some carbs.. Better lasting primer bulbs. If "they" would just stop with the alcohol in the fuel, ruining carbs. and causing massive losses in both time and money.
