Got a 55 givin to me that dude straight gassed and a new oem p/c kit was 110 bucks. Well worth it for a good little firewood saw. My dealer said they are just about gone though and of course discontinued now. Also I got a 024 with scored piston. I saved the cylinder and put a Hyway piston in it and now runs like a top also!! Love getting people's junk!!

I have a Husqy Brush Cutter 235R from the 90's. It has got to where I can run 1 tank out, go to refuel and never get it started again.

My recommendation is to inspect the cylinder for scoring.

He replaced it with a lesser saw. He only needed something to react to storm damage in his yard. Not sure how he ended up with this saw in the first place. Ahhh, closure.

how can you have good compression and still be scourged ?

I suspect the grooves and gouges all align enough to create some type of seal. The problem is that after the engine has been running and creating heat, the rings can pinch in the piston groove and not seal much at all.

Mine min rate is 20€. I usually have to deal with engines that dealer wouldn't take to work on them. That are mostly saws from 20 years ago, and more. Husqvarna 61 was very popular over here and they are really frequent in my garage..

Being noisy what do you charge as a minimum labor rate? Looking to start doing work on saws and small engines ? I know demographics are a part of it. I have no clue what dealers charge. I never used them for labor. Always fixed my own stuff. Thanks.

Our lowest minimum labor rate comes out to just under 22 dollars with tax included. We have another minimum labor rate called a diagnostic fee for those jobs where you don't actually fix anything but are in that 15 minute range. I think those four stroke knuckle draggers on the other side of the shop may have their own minumum as well but I don't know what it is. Sometimes we don't charge anything and just ask the customer to buy something he would normally need like bar oil or whatever.

Unless the scoring was excessive I would probably opt for cleaning up the piston, replacing the ring(s), possibly ball honing the cylinder and hoping for a reasonable compression number, especially based on this owner’s usage.
@TheGreasyShopRag

You would also want to confirm why it was scored so you're not just fixing the result of some different problem.

Cylinder and piston are inexpensive for this saw. Easy to replace. You spend more time cleaning sawdust and oil off then it takes to replace the piston and cylinder.

We only use OEM parts when replacing piston/cylinder. Thats $120 plus labor. Yes its worth fixing but in the end the customer has to make that decision.
