I'm wondering if they had immediately tipped the water out and poured petrol down the spark plug hole and cycled it round to flush it out a couple of times whether they might have saved the saw, esp if they got it to you straight away and explained the situation. I guess to be sure it would need to be fully torn down.
@TheGreasyShopRagАй бұрын
Thats exactly what a customer did a few years back. I flooded the case with oil, then flushed it with fuel. He's still running that saw.

@thomasfrost6993Ай бұрын
This would be a good one to just get it running the way it is and see how long it lasts. I think as long as you didn't run it hard for the first couple tanks it might just dry itself out. I'd love to experiment with that one.
@TheGreasyShopRagАй бұрын
I had that thought also because it would answer what right now is speculation. In the end, it isn't my saw and the owner just wanted it for parts.

I own one of those Oregon Powercut bars, and a bunch of the Advancecut ones (I think the Advancecut is a more economical bar in the Oregon product line up, and I don't often see the Powercut in my dealers). It was a different dealer who deals in the non- everyday, higher grade professional tools I think, who must have put the Powercut bar bundled in with a new 585 a while ago. In all honesty I'm a fan of the heavier Husqvarna bars in the 'heavy' equipment I run (a 585 isn't portable to carry for several hours, but a 572 or a 372 might be). And I really like using my Oregon Powercut bar in the smaller engine saws. It's a 24 inch length Powercut, and every time I use it to cut, for some reason I always think to myself, that 24 inch Powercut is excellent to use in a 70cc tool. If I want to up my chain speed a decent amount, gain back a bit extra horsepower with stock built 70cc saws, I'll change back down to 20 inch heavy Husqvarna bars then, but being really careful with shorter length bars. It's hard to explain in words though how nice that Oregon Powercut 24 inch is, with the 70cc tools. I think the word I'd use is accurate, or precision oriented. In the .058 inch kerf at least. I viewed a channel of a production tree care and falling practitioner lately, and he bought a significant amount of .050 inch bars and chain loops (all different brands too). Once you get into something that works, or that fells right, there's scope to explore between different brands in whatever niche you're in. The .050 chain is weak, and he ran all 395 Husqvarna saws, so his bar choices mattered to him. I can guarantee you though, who ever is running those 572 saws a lot, he knows a bar for that tool which gets 'the most' from that particular saw. The bar looked new aswell. My guess is that the saw owner keeps those tools running at their peak best. That's my gut feeling.
@TheGreasyShopRagАй бұрын
Thanks for your views on bars and thanks for watching!
@academicmailbox7798Ай бұрын
Re-looked, that's a skip chain on what looks like a 28 inch bar. Nice. Ironhorse often talked about how the skip chain got introduced way back, when 70cc smaller and more portable, less fuel hungry tools got introduced into felling tree work environments. In the bush, you are constantly touching up your chain using files, so skip tooth at 28 inch bar length to me makes sense, from a time and labour perspective. I haven't gotten into skip tooth chain yet, there's a kickback risk with it, if you aren't familiar enough with it too. All the real production guys do use it. I love using the 28 or 32 inch bars though, as it gives you space and distance separation away from danger in working. I'm all for that. The pro saws like that 572 give you adjustment nuts to increase oil pump flow for longer bars. My 28 inch loops I just find do take me longer to grind and get prepared, without having skip tooth chain yet. So like, everything about the way that 572 saw was customized bar and chain wise, points me back to that gut feeling, whoever is running tbis tool normally likes getting work done. And yeah, the whole point of the 572 saw, is that you're most likely to carry it and climb with it into awkward to access places, such as river banks etc. The 562 saws even more, and definitely the 550 Husqvarna. There's nothing that will allow you to run a 28 inch Oregon Powercut bar though, and still feel as though you've still got enough horsepower at your disposal in a stock built saw, I'd say than a 572 Husky. And still give you a tool that you can just about carry all day long with relative ease. A 585 or 592 will deliver a totally different magnitude of horsepower. A different world. Except, you won't access places with them, that you can comfortably carry the 572 to. A really interesting tool set up, that one you had in your hands from a usage point if view.

Tell me your thoughts on the crank bearings. Do you feel I was right to suggest the saw would be short lived or do you think it could have been salvaged?
@HayChaffandSawdust1Ай бұрын
@@TheGreasyShopRag Recognizing that your creek water is similar to mine and *NOT* like the creek water in a Louis L'Amour scene where you can see speckled trout, I would be afraid it's just like a nudist beach... there's sand in places you don't want sand!!... bearings, impregnated into xfers, cyl, piston, etc...; also would be suspect of how it stopped running. If it stopped under hydraulic lock, could the inertia of the flywheel and sudden stop of the piston tweak the crank out of zero and/or compromise the rod/piston? For the repair shop, it's a no-brainer. Conversely, for the "lucky" home-gamer, he can flush it out with his stale beer/cigarette butt slurry and the thing would run like a champ for eons. Personally, I would love to find it offered "as parts"; as a repair shop, I would run from it while shooting wildly over my shoulder.
