Ha, now folks might understand why I have and love my 585. Stock. I've had time on both. Having said that, when they fully break in AND you field tune the 592 things might change up a bit. Maybe. And still have to tweak the 585 as the seasons change. BUT I would definitely buy another one should I need another felling saw. Mine with a 28 Husqvarna light (Sugi) bar and usually c83 chain. Love it. The carb adjustment tool is tough to find, a forester kit's "pack man" adjustment tool will work, AND they get a little stronger with a bit more fuel. AND the service bulletin is out for the purge line ( Issue on 592/585 ) and they are available. My budget was $1500 and the 585 went for a LOT less. Best bang per buck in that class by far. I ONLY have one triaxle log load of time on mine to this point in time, so kind of a limited experience set on the 585. Next year I'll know more about them.

Very unexpected outcome yet not surprising at all. IMO autotune/m-tronic is great for those who don't want to learn to tune their saws, won't or just don't care! For now anyway, id much rather have a carb and a screwdriver in my pocket!

Nice video. I am considering these very 2 saws. I think the 592 would walk away from the 585 if you put a 32" and up bar and chain on. Pulling is where the cubic inches would really come into play. To be honest the 585 would handle anything that I have to cut and a carb lets me not be forced to go to the dealer for a tune. But on the other hand auto tune has that modern cool factor. Not to mention the 592 has more cubes that should translate into more torque.

Try it with a 8 tooth sprocket. Or a 404. Besides a 24” bar is kinda small for these saws.

Don’t know how many hours on your 592. Have heard people say it takes 10 - 11 tanks and they wake up. I absolutely love my 592. Amazed by it every time I find excuses to run it. Still only got 6 tanks though it.

It’s been tested a bunch that a good carb will make more power than a fuel injection throttle body although I can’t remember now why. They also make more power than a true fuel injected engine because the fuel running through the intake lowers the charge temperature. What they generally don’t do is make broad power everywhere although a very sophisticated card can. The problem with the .063 chain is that it is heavier and even just a little bit of extra centrifugal mass really drains hp. You could always shim the stihl bar and use it on the other saws but that’s more work obviously. Apple’s to Orange comparisons kinda suck but it’s just entertainment not rocket surgery so who cares. 👍🏼👍🏼
@elonmust7470
@elonmust7470 6 ай бұрын
In general? Heck no! Fi automotive engines are more efficient on all facets. Miniscule adjustments on the fly vs a big fuel leak. Cooling? You can put injectors in the combustion chamber, or you can put them at the beginning of the intake runners, or anywhere in between. As for powersaws, carbs still rule due to the screwdriver being far more portable than a laptop & accompanying equipment ie tps, wide band, intake temp, etc.

You think .063 slows a saw down? Got any demonstrable evidence? I've put many many many millions of feet on the ground with .063. The benefit of a stouter driver is that it's harder to tear up. Rolling a thrown chain back on vs filing & beating buggered drivers back into service is a big deal in the fall & buck!
@dgoodman1484
@dgoodman1484 6 ай бұрын
If you need proof, it’s a simple thing to throw on an .050 and see for yourself. As for fuel injection, just search around. In the atv race world, all the top guys pull the fuel injection and run carbs. Unless it’s a new car with a sophisticated computer with all the corresponding (heavy) sensors, FI simply isn’t near as advanced as the last of the good carbs. Engine Masters even took a pretty advanced FI and the carb still made more power. Something atv racers have known for over a decade.

@dgoodman1484 I mean, I've cut Logs in VA NC WV TN CA & OR. Average 9 tanks or 2 gallons a day through a ported 92cc stihl. In production falling, time saved is money made. Rolling a chain back on 10 seconds after its thrown as opposed to straightening drivers & ties by hand & filing burrs down makes a big difference after a year or 15. Think about what happens to the chain as the bits are filed back. It gets lighter & lighter, you don't go hogging half of the meat off out of the box to get rid of weight, you make it last ad long as possible. I was taught by old growth fallers, the best on earth. As for FI, ive run megasquirt ms3 pro and more recently Fueltech. Engine management has advanced tremendously in the last 15 years.
@dgoodman1484

No, it’s all been downhill since the days of the 066’s due to EPA regulations. Last time I saw anyone running a .063 404 chain was in the early nineties and they were running 076’s and they all changed over But if it’s working for you no reason to change. Heck maybe your running 3/8 063 and that would be fine but it isn’t common. I will say that you didn’t need to dress a bar as often back in the old 404 days because it was the full width of the bar but it definitely cut slower.

Look at you trying to make excuses for stihl. Maybe it is an unfair comparison but I see it as a real world comparison. You go to the dealer and that’s what they have and are going to sell you unless you specify what you want. But even then if you buy a new power head they will only give you what the manufacturer recommends. Even though I prefer a stihl because of there flip caps and a kill switch that is near impossible to accidentally hit I want to see them put in there place. I feel the husky’s are a superior product they just don’t have those awesome flip caps and there kill switch needs to be better.

@@elonmust7470 I think you meant more operators have spilled more oil than Exxon. I will give it to you that the flip caps ain’t idiot proof and get your point, but it’s not the flip caps fault that people are animals and like to jam things in holes. I’ve only had a cap come off 1 time and it was the oil. You do have to really take care to make sure you get them in proper, but you will never need a tool to remove them like every screw type.

Before you do any modding to the powerheads, get the chains sharp! I could smoke these setups with half the hp! But I like many, have studied the chisel bit to the extent of having different grinds for different species, costal, high elevation, etc!
@elonmust7470
@elonmust7470 6 ай бұрын
You can run .050 in a .063 groove. Especially if you get good angles setup. The .050 will just wonder a little bit more than usual. Whatever chains you're dealing with, they can be had with either .050 or .063 As for performance, Ill take .063 every time. Much more productive when considering the fragility of .050 & the aggravation of a thrown chain needing to be worked on before its ready to roll again. I ran CK75 & CJ75 pretty much exclusively in the woods.
