A really nice tutorial!!! I was looking for a video with a clear explanation of how does this AWD transmission work. I couldn`t understand how a variety of speed can be reached. No automatic gearbox like for cars. The engine is working on nearly constant speed. The question was how it works by pressing a handle bar only... I was shocked with this. It seems to me, the lever/handle bar provides different friction in between belts and pulleys... just by apply different tension. Wow... that looks like a kid`s toys. At least belts must be regularly changed in this case. Can you tell me whether all the AWD movers work like that or there is more smart and proper speed managing system in the world, please ? :)

HI, many do work this way.... Lawn tractors that aren't hydro transmissions and have a gear shifter use a pulley system where there are 2 belts into one pulley. The different tensions from the gear shifter moves the center section up and down and changes the pulley ratio and thus the speed.... It doesn't really cause the belts to wear out fast since there's no real slippage.

It's a return spring to hold tension on the trans-axle.. I don't know what it's called, but if you plug your model number into a site like parts tree you can see the parts breakdown of that section of the mower and see the spring. Then where the list of part numbers is, you can see the name of it as well as the part number.

My John Deere self propelled mower, after it heats up and shut off, it will not start until it completely cools down??? Have any thoughts?

Could it be a magneto? How long does it run before it shuts off? Usually if it's a carburetor issue, it'll show up sooner rather than later. Do you have a spark checker? You can test the spark while it's in it's shutdown phase. It's best to do this while it's kinda dark, like in a garage if you have one since you can see the neon light better.. They have those at harbor freight for around $5 if you don't have one. Just an idea, not sure if that's that cause..

@@JLPicard440 The mower will run non stop until I stop it and dump the collection and then it will not start, have replaced spark plug, did open the carb and cleaned out the float, thought the float was not working,

I have an AWD Husky. Worst mower I've ever had. I've fixed the drive system probably 4x by various means, including fabricating parts. I keep praying for it to die completely, but alas it has a Honda engine. Maybe I will feed it some nitromethane.
