I love the roller guides. Especially if you rock a chain. You can exert considerably more pressure with minimum effort using the rollers. Don't really need it for a guide, the mark on the tooth is fine.

Yes they work well

I like to use the Husky file gauge to check the angle after a few hand files as well.

Have you ever tried the Stihl 2 in 1 file system? It does the rakers and tooth at the same time - but I've seen it knock the rakers down too much.
@ChainsawUsers7 ай бұрын
Yes I own the stihl 2 in 1 but is a constant depth gauge and will only keep the raker height. 65mm below the tooth height. A progressive depth gauge will start at .65mm and by the time you reach end of life tje depth distance will be around 1.2mm in depth making the chain cut much better. The attack angle of the tooth to raker should be at least 5.1° 6.3° is optimal setting but stihl gauge will only give low 5° The flat gauge at end of life will have an attack angle of 3.5° max and that is very poor for cutting. Ray Carlton invented the progressive depth gauge and called it file O plate

Just take the flat file out of the 2 in 1.

@marcusjason5658 I only use a progressive raker gauge from Stihl

You can make an exception and try to sharpen Oregon chains using those guides designed for Husqvarna chains that are not their own (X-Cut), because they were simply Oregon chains with the Husqvarna logo. This also applies to other Husqvarna (formerly Electrolux) brands. Such roller guides in Europe, at least, are also sold under the McCulloch brand, for example.

So husqvarna don't make chainsaw chain now ??? Did they ever make it ? The guides are ok. I guess it's what you get used to. I just tried it on a Oregon chain was a bit tight. They must make it to thier specifications
@elpolaco76548 ай бұрын
@@ChainsawUsers I apologize if I expressed myself unclearly. These new chains (X-Cut) with S (semi chisel) and C (chisel) markings are Husqvarna's own products. They started producing them in Sweden in 2015-2016 IIRC. Those older chains available in their range (generally with H markings) are rebranded Oregon chains.

Any idea when Husqvarna brought out thier roller guides ?
@elpolaco76548 ай бұрын
@@ChainsawUsers These guides were designed by Nordfor company (Huskvarna/Vikmanshyttan, Sweden) and launched in the first half of the 1980s under the Nordtec brand.

@@SawChainTheories Of course, guides using rollers back then were nothing new. People had already invented them in the 1950s (or earlier).

I’ve been using the Husqvarna ones for about 22 years they can be a bit tight on some chains but usable still, the death gauge metal is a bit soft but I mostly hand file 👍

I have one for a Husky Rancher 50 and use it occasionally, which seems to work. Where do you get the bench mounted chain vice (in Australia)? It looks like a handy bit of kit. Cheers.

I'm with you - take an extra chain or two, and file at home.

How hard is it to move the raker gauge before you file ? I am a perfect hand filer.... haha... I have made every mistake many times. I am better than I used to be but I still could be better. I am referring to field sharpening.
@ChainsawUsers8 ай бұрын
Take extra chains with you and avoid filing in the field

@@ChainsawUsers Yes, thank you. I do that too.

I dont recommend husqvarna roller guide tool. File sits too high and wont make agressive cutting tooth. I used this tool once but never again.
@ChainsawUsers8 ай бұрын
That's interesting
@nseric12338 ай бұрын
I did the same with mine. It just didn’t get the file low enough in the cutter. It’s just a depth gauge now.
@RailPRO7938 ай бұрын
Use different size files as needed. Works great and keeps your angle consistent

I have heard that from a few people but Husqvarna have so many of them
