Husqvarna Svartpilen 701 Number Plate Removal

A little tip, something I did was put the bolts back in to the holes because they go through to under the seat. I live in the northwest where I expect I'll be riding in the rain occasionally and water will get thrown up underneath there, potentially. The Vitpilen has rubber plugs that go into the holes. Also a washer on the right side passenger peg is good because there's a bit of space left if you just replace the bolt and nothing in the between where the plate used to be.

Getting my 701 delivered tonight, and this is the first thing I thought I'd do on my bike. Happy to see it was so easy. Unfortunately(?) the previous owner put a tail tidy on it, and I'm still not 100% sure it improves the look compared to the swingarm mounted number plate... The tail end looks much more clean without the number plate up there.

I agree. The tail tidies I've seen are not impressive. I'd probably make my own if I didn't kinda like that low fender design.

@@jackmalory3698 I've already taken the tail tidy off of it :) And the number plate. It's just too beautiful without them on. I'm going to put the reg plate back behind the wheel, but will try to figure out a way to keep the turn indicators next to the rear light, like on the 401. Plenty of attachment points when the black plastic is removed, but it must look nice as well :)

Thanks, a lot more complicated than I thought it would be but with your instructions it should be simple. While I'd like to put my favorite number on that plate it looks much nicer with the symmetry. Good call with putting the bolts back in, maybe find some rubber washers too.

Thanks...didn't know it had a Vitpilen tail underneath...means you can reverse the process, make a Svartpilen out of of a V/P...

Looks like, after removing the cover, a small gap remains under the rear passanger seat. Maybe we can use the Vitpilen rear passanger seat, to get rid of that gap?

That might be possible. I had to go look to see what you were talking about. The "gap" is really not noticeable to me, and causes no harm that I can tell.

Great video! Impressive! I wondered about how that makes bike not look symmetrical but I figured that was a part of this history of the bike. Also, this bike because of the number plate you can only get the one sided saddle bag for it unlike the vitp. I wonder if it fixes that now. Will you keep the rest of your bike as it or what? I have the same bike as you and really like it. My bike seems to ride a little rough in lower RPM's does yours? A dealer said the tires for the bike might be a factor they are kind of off roadish and they say the single cylinder. I am wondering if this bike will smooth out after the first service. Any feedback on that as well. Very impressive!

With the number plate removed it might be easier to put a bag on the right side, thus giving you the ability to have one on each side, but the limiting factor will be the exhaust which sits there as well. As far as rough at low RPMs, yes, it was, but I put a Rottweiler Fuel Dongle on that made a big difference. I did a video on that as well. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGXLm6uAed6Hm7M
