Well done. Great videography. Appreciate your showing all the details of the bike, nice and slowly, and up close. Also appreciate the shots in which you accelerate from very low RPM to high - provides insight into the character and smoothness (or lack thereof) of the engine throughout the rev range. It would also be helpful if you were to do some tight, slow turns in a parking lot, to illustrate low-speed manueverability. One of the biggest gripes I had about the 1996 Monster I once owned, was that the poor low speed carburetion and lack of "steering lock" made getting around tight spaces unnecessarily dicey.

@@user-sw2lv3zp6o well,umm,...it's fun?!.there a gas tank recall. (Mine didn't leak).the hydraulic clutch slave cylinder is utter leaky garbage( I knew that going in so had aftermarket replacement on hand). And the dash is glitchy and will flash random warnings at you.( They don't affect riding just annoying seems like a software issue.).I think of it as the hot crazy party girl(or guy for the ladies).a good time but there's bound to be issues.if you want reliability I'd go with a mt07/09 or BMW f900r. Or mabey even a Ducati scrambler. But those bikes while good just aren't as unique as this
@user-sw2lv3zp6o
@user-sw2lv3zp6o 3 жыл бұрын
@@satur9satur9 It amazes me that the slave cylinders on KTMs are still rubbish. I had a 950 in the mid 2000s for a couple of years. Mine went at 10,000 miles. Wrote it off in 2007 three days before the insurance was due to expire and doubtless just before clutch slave cylinder number 2 was about to go as I'd done just shy of 20,000 miles then. Interesting you mention the Ducati Scrambler as being more reliable. It probably is but needs too much servicing. Valve checks every service and probably a cam belt, too, just to be safe.
@satur9satur9
@satur9satur9 3 жыл бұрын
@@user-sw2lv3zp6o btw the 2019s have cast wheels but all black color. The Ducati is a similar bike. I've heard the service intervals are longer and valve checks are easier with the l shaped cylinder s.ducati has had a long time to iron out issues. Ktm seems like they don't really care. But then again Kawasaki did the same with the doohickey on the klr. Just ignored it. Since you had a ktm. Then you're not going in blind.

1990 That’s official figures so real world would most likely be less. We’re reviewing the Vitpilen in a couple of weeks but we’d go for the Svartpilen because of the bars and comfortable riding position. A bit in the same situation here, got my A (before there was A1 here, that's how old my license is) when I was 16 but never upgraded to heavier bikes since all my money went to cars when I turned 18. This year I decided to get back on two wheels again, after a 30 year break, and got myself a Svartpilen 125. I've had a blast with it this summer, even though it's scary slow compared to the 2 stroke 125s of the 80's. You'll have even more fun on the 401, it is a great little bike :) (and looks better than the 701, in my opinion!) I'm trading in my 125 for a 701 this or next week, now I only have to upgrade my license when spring comes around!

Excellent review and video! I stumbled on this because I was looking at this bike. Do you think this bike is a good all arounder and do you think the single disc brake up front is sufficient? I typically shy away from single disc brake bikes. And do you think the overall quality is good? Thanks

Thanks buddy. Yes it’s a great all round bike and fun too! Tbh, single disc brakes are perfectly good. Dual discs are more about dissipating heat from heavy continuous braking and don’t necessarily offer more stopping power. Because KTM will not make this engine anymore, but they will make a bigger displacement one which is in the new Husqvarna Norden 901. So this means we will probably see Svartpilen/Vitpilen 901

Nobody knows for sure, but I did hear a whisper that it was too good as a hooligan bike for the open road and law enforcement put the pressure on. They still use the 701 as a dirt bike however.
