Hustle culture, toxic productivity, internalised capitalism... oof. There's so much more I can say on this, but here's a rambley start. Just a reminder that investing in your mental health is productive. Hanging out with friends should not make you feel guilty. Balance balance balance.

This culture of striving high destroyed my mental health at your age. I struggled at university, had exam anxiety and mental breakdowns and panic attacks literally in the first week of the new semester. Now at 24 and currently in my masters I treasure the process way more than the grade. I appreciate learning something new everyday and I know exactly that there are only so many hours I want to spent on studying during a day since there are other things in life such as sports, food and friends. Turns out my grades improved with this approach not to even mention my mental health. Such a good and important video and so glad you do have this realization this early in your life.

Same here. I struggled very badly and had anxiety disorder. Slowly I had started to feel better and study well. I even passed with very good grades. And now I'm about to give a competitive exam and everything is crashing down. Study stress became so much like everyone around just talked about study study and study . Teachers will be like you're going to fail if you don't study 12 hrs a day or sleep more than 7/8 hrs. Now I'm dealing with very bad depression. It's hard to even get out of bed and just thought of studying makes it worse. I don't know what went wrong. I was very studious and bright kid since I know myself. Now I don't know how am I even going to give my exam .

@@samisjournal2725 I am so incredibly sorry for you and I know the feeling of not knowing what went wrong and how to fix it. It took some time to admit to myself that in fact it was mental and not that I just wasn’t good enough (which I was). Eventually I reached out to the student service who also can provide a psychological support which helped me a lot. I would recommend to talk to someone who can help you professionally, just as a broken arm needs a surgeon a hurting soul needs a psychologist and there is nothing wrong with that. Most of us can't help but live as though we've got two lives to live, one is the mockup, the other the finished version, and then there are all those versions in between. But there's only one, and before you know it, your heart is worn out, and, as for your body, there comes a point when no one looks at it, much less wants to come near it." I had an interview as a graduate five years ago in a big marketing agency, I had to stand up and introduce myself in front of 50 people and there where rounds of the process like x-factor. One of the interviewers asked me after I'd introduced myself If I was motivated by making money. I said no, I wasn't and I didn't get the job (surprise). I'm motivated by doing acts of service and human interaction. Long story short I've got one year left of my midwifery degree and caring for people in the NHS is where I belong, I'll never earn big bucks and I have two degrees to slowly pay back to SFE. But the happiness and casual magic I see every day will always will my pockets and my heart more than anything else.

I think “celebrating the slow” depends on which age bracket you fall within. When I was younger, it was all about the hustle. Somewhere around age 47, the hustle wasn’t what was important. I no longer obsess about work and when I log out for the day, I do not think about work. I enjoy the quiet, spending time with friends, going out to eat and traveling.

I hear this everytime and I couldn't agree more. But honestly for me personally I always get a bit angry. I struggled now for years to get my ass to the desk and concentrate for just the shortest amount of time to get stuff done. It is really not about motivation or the wrong topics I had to study for, it is simply in my nature that I procrastinate and get distracted a lot. This is by all means nothing against Jade or any other person who speaks about this, because they are so right. But just regarding people who are trapped in this societal norm. I just wished more people would talk about people who weren't productive and can be proud of themselves when they got stuff done. Sometimes it just seems nowadays it is more valuable to ,,can't help yourself and be soooooo productive but to be strong enough to take 1 hour to yourself" I honestly pray that this does not come off the wrong way, I hope some people recognize maybe a friend of theirs in this and know that every person has different struggles and support them in theirs😅 Wish you all a nice day 🥰

Exactly. I'm also just a naturally more chill person, on vacations I can just sit in the sun and enjoy the view and I can do this for hours, or just read a book in the shade surrounded by nature. I don't enjoy living a hectic stressful life when there's always another thing to do or another deadline in front of me, sometimes I truly wonder why society drifted so far apart from nature to this. I value academic succes but I'm so bad at staying concentrated, especially for the classes that are in my curriculum but really aren't in any way related to my major (so I feel like it's not useful or boring). So then I start stressing, then procrastinating, feel bad about procrastinating, stress even more, ... It's a vicious cycle.

Jade, Jade, JADE! Ugh, I love you so much! Your content always made me feel like I am on the right track personally, you know, like just watching your videos makes me feel like I'm doing something right and it's all because of your energy. It just feels like the kind of energy you feel after spending hours and hours with your best friend, doing absolutely nothing! You are one of my most favourite people on KZbin (maybe even in real life) and I just want you to know that I appreciate you and I'm grateful to have found you :) Lots of Love ❤❤❤

Your smile is what’s beautiful Jade! I was thinking about this as well, especially after GCSEs have been cancelled and the year had been cut short, I am treasuring the moment. I closed my eyes in the bus that takes me home and I could feel the warmth of the sun on my face and the sound of the students chatting and the subtle sound of the engine, so hat when I close my eyes again I could return to that moment in time.

This is absolutely my favourite video of yours so far. I've been having a work/life crisis.. well a crisis for me at least. Thanks for the much need perspective. In addition to this - I encourage my kids to play, be silly & after school I ask "What was your favourite part of today?" - it's a sweet conversational gateway to positive chatter.

Jade, if you ever want to lecture at a university or just anywhere, you would be amazing! Yeah, you're still young, but honestly I would happily go to any of your lectures to hear you speak any day. You just explain things and theories that could've been difficult in such a great way, and your reflections on society and life are just so inspiring!! I learn as much from your videos as from my uni degree.

This honesty (including letting us in on the breakup) is so helpful. It's been a rough few weeks and I have struggled to let myself process the emotion. Part of it is not liking to feel sad (who does, right?) but part of it is this hustle culture. 💙

It’s not the fact you achieved high academically but it’s because of your mindset the way you talk to us like we’re your best friends. Honestly jade your the sweetest person I’ve come across you talk in a way that captivates everyone in such a nice way I’m in year 11 and always watching your study/motivation videos on repeat why? You made them and i trust you wholesomely.
