how to love yourself, exactly as you are. because in a world that profits off your insecurities, in a world where palatable, quiet womxn are easier and softer than those who are opinionated, the biggest rebellion is to love yourself and be confident.
self confidence checklist:
- CATCH yourself having negative thoughts. they're not helping you. stop self sabotaging and replace them with positive affirmations.
- stop apologising. catch yourself softening your competency in emails.
- own and love your body. you're frickin' incredible. i don't need to see you to KNOW that.
Important note: Though the confidence gap is a thing, I fully appreciate that guys need confidence boosts too!! Toxic masculinity sucks for everyone. This is not a womxn-only issue. Speaking to my experience and articles I've read, this video frames it to a more female context, but my intention is not to alienate. I would love to explore this in another video.
wow, this video was fun.
self love, hype up, how to stop people pleasing and be more self confident as a teenager.
oh also, i know i say women and men in this video. it is not my intention to be exclusionary to non-binary individuals, hence my use of "womxn" to centre non-men.

Could I maybe add that constructive criticism should be taken from everyone, given that it's objective and has no bad underlying intentions? On the other hand, unrequested advice and hatred should not? Because I believe not everyone is oir to get you, so take the constructive (!!!) criticism and ignore the bashful comments and alike!

@xmxzng1617 3 жыл бұрын
@@mistym8271 in this case I'm talking about an essay, where you're presenting data, reflecting on it, and getting conclusions along with the reader. Essays and news aren't the same kind of text, since essays tend to help the reader reflect on the subject at hand. An essay is an entire debate along with an invisible person, whereas news is just you putting stuff out there without justifying anything. Also, I'm not from the us but I have my fair amount of experience with fake news, and the fact that I know I can bullshit my way through a piece of writing reminds me that everyone else could do it too. The key is to contrast the information with different sources and read between the lines. But as I've said, I was talking about essays, and while I know there's a line between opinion and fact, I also know that I don't trust an essay that ends with "I think my conclusions on this subject are these", because it feels like you haven't really put the effort on this thing you're writing an entire paper on (Hope I didn't sound to aggressive hehe)

Once I get her confidence its all over for my depression and anxiety.
@emiv592
@emiv592 3 жыл бұрын
I know this is jokingly said, but I've been there, so in case jg helps . Try the other way around. When you get help for your depression, your anxiety may become more manageable. When you learn to control your anxiety, your confidence will get better. People are not paying such close attention to you, which is both hurtful, and liberating. They might not notice what you are stressing about, and if they do they likely not care about it in the same way. Therapy works, if both you and the therapist do. When possible, open up about how you feel, and ask if someone will support you.

@@mazelawilson5550 I'm at the same boat, and what's been helping me is therapy, I highly recommend doing an online therapy, especially if you're an extrovert like me ;u; also, don't forget to get that dose of serotonin, hug your dog, cat, or pet, if you don't have one, go out in the sun, dance, see cute videos of animals, laugh, talk to your friends, and if anxiety is too intense and is making you panick think about small things that make you feel good, like a fresh morning breeze, like the smell of fresh baked cake, the sound of the rain.. write it down if you need to! Sit on the ground, with your eyes closed and mentally list five things you can hear, 4 things you can feel 3 smells you can sniff and lastly, make two deep belly breath, in trough your mouth and out trough your mouth This helps a lot with anxiety 💜💜 do not forget, your brain and your heart needs a little love and attention!

Im so sorry that you are feeling like this, please know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel! it will get better! I write my feelings down in a book and it helps me so much to identify why I'm feeling the way i do and what i can do to feel better. I also finding walking and just dancing so liberating and freeing! if you have anywhere you can go to just dance and let loose it might help. aswell just try and surround your self with positive things and for every worry flip it into why you are thankful for it. eg feeling anxious about going to school instead flip it and think im so grateful for this worry cos it means that i have access to an education and the opportunity to learn so many things. good luck you can do it ! xxx

I know that for many people this is far from enough to overcome the deep-seated insecurities modern society has groomed in us, but I just want to throw this thought out into the world if it can help some other girl: Beauty standards/what are fashionable/what are appealing to others are all going to pass in a few years' time, maybe less. But how you look is the result of the combination of the DNA of millennia of ancestors who loved their looks, loved their culture and loved each other. Who you are is the result of your experiences and your history that are both SO MUCH more real than the fake standards corporations peddle to make you buy stuff. Love you xx And thank you Jade for your videos, as always.

I think that the pandemic quarantine has really revealed to me how much I dedicate every way I express myself to pleasing other people, to being palatable as you say and refusing to say anything that doesn't align with what has already been said to protect myself from any criticism or opposition where I would immediately back down and agree. Shrinking into an image of a quiet/reserved girl where I resided in comfort, unchallenged and easy to manipulate into public agreement where I would be privately silencing my own views/opinions and negating the validity of them. However, I have been prompted to reconsider who this serves - because it is not me - after reading several of Renée Kapuku's articles and emails -> Especially the one entitled "Not Everyone Will Like You - Get Over It' which really targets this people-pleasing tendency head-on : ). In terms of venturing into the unknown territory or 'hyping myself up' but proceeding in the name of "fake it till ya make it" - I am blossoming every day into someone I love and will continue to love regardless of my inevitable mistakes and missteps because if I am not learning, I am not growing into myself. I am gentle and independent. My life is meaningful and worthwhile living for myself and not just for others. Thank you Jade :)

As a MALE I can say that men struggle with this too. Especially gay men (like me). Gender expression is on a spectrum and both men and women can have these people-pleasing/palatable tendencies bc they can both be feminine. This video has literally helped me so much you don’t even know. I’ve been experiencing so much confusion in my masculinity bc even though I’m a guy, I often view masc men as a different sex to me that I can’t relate to. And I think this is why, I’ve been so heavily identifying with femininity that I’ve subconsciously taken on some of the insecurities that can society can imbed in it. Thank you Jade omg.

@mwolfe2022
@mwolfe2022 3 жыл бұрын
@@coolcraker123 Not sure what Verity Britcliffe means. However, while some men can experience the situation described by Jade it is still primarily experienced by womxn because of how we are raised and socialized. Being told to be a "good girl" is a global issue and being socially reprimanded whenever we show signs of being confident, direct, and managerial (bossy) is also a global issue. As a result, your experience of people-pleasing is likely entirely different from how a girl experiences growing up a people pleaser. For example, you can behave in a confident manner yet never be called "bossy". You'll also not be looked down upon for being confident or speaking bluntly. The social perception of self-assured women tends to be negative. So in the end, the issue as mentioned by Jade is quite misogynistic in nature.

I've been told that I can be intimidating and unapproachable, and that I don't smile enough. People tell me to "make an effort to look approachable" or "smile so that you don't look angry" so that guys will feel comfortable enough to talk to me. Every time people say that, I say that I'm not going to change who I am to make some guy comfortable. If he's intimidated by me, that's his problem, not mine. But from this video, I've realized how much I soften myself in order to not seem disagreeable or cold. I've realized how much I try to make myself palatable. Even though I hate when people tell me to change myself to be less intimidating, I see how much I've internalized that mentality, and how much I try to soften myself. I'm really going to try to stop doing that, and just be who I am - the less soft and easy version of myself that I wish I could be. I owe it to myself to be myself. Thanks for this video :)

i love love LOVE this. we need more of this sophisticated herbal tea sipping energy in our lives!! I remember when in primary school I thought there were two paths to success in life: to be smart or to be pretty. And no boy ever expressed any interest in me so I was clearly not pretty. So I just decided I would never seek romantic validation, forbade myself from having crushes and pursuing them because no one would want me anyway, and thought of myself as this meek, boring, PALATABLE nerdy girl. and guess what that became reality! Only recently have I tried to be more assertive and proactive and guess what, I’m having an amazing time and building my confidence. It’s never too late people, even if you wasted your teenage years on berating yourself, you can still get on the path to self love!! ❤️❤️

Oh my goodness, Jade. What even are you. Can I just take a moment to say, how much of a positive impact you have on me, and on so many girls. What you said, is EXACTLY what we all need to hear, and to know, and to do. You are amazing. You inspire me everyday, and I feel like KZbin and basically every other social media has also impacted many girls, where they unconsciously start to compare themselves with the ‘perfect’ ‘successful’ ‘pretty’ girls and think, that they are not enough. They want to look like her, to be her, sometimes without even knowing the person personally. And the fact that you’re using such platform as KZbin and Instagram to spread this important message just gives me so much hope. You probably don’t even know just HOW much you HELP. I can’t think of anyone else who would say this out load, for many people to hear, just as it should be said. @@inerys6133 I agree equality should be a norm and not something we'll still fighting for in 2020 but unfortunately the world we live in means we are subconsciously being trained to think in a certain way. However, power comes when we ourselves can push back against the stereotypes and cultural norms surrounding us to value ourselves for who we are. If everyone in the world did this, the harmful pressures of an unequal society would simply be unable to thrive and grow as they do now. I’m literally such a people pleaser that someone could tell me that my name isn’t Emily, I wouldn’t even argue it for more than 2 minutes and give in. If someone told me 2+2=5, I would say, no it’s 4, you idiot, but if they were to reinforce that it was 5 for a few minutes, i would agree and continue my day knowing they are wrong but not wanting to argue in case i am wrong.

I’ve always been insecure about myself and still am. My friend who I respect and love very much recently told me that I have to work on my appearance to become confident. Needless to say, I went out to buy a face mask literally 2 days after he said that to me and never noticed that the reason why I made that purchase was because of him. Am I more confident now? Nope. Confidence starts from the inside, it’s a skill that can be learned over time. Don’t expect a face mask, makeup product, or new clothes to fix your lack of confidence. Progress starts inside.
