we've been trained to be hypersensitive to what a woman should be. when we don't feel like we are uplifting that conventional beauty, societal body image, oof--. Prepare for insecurity. and yet, when other women start to break out of these norms, unapologetically wearing what they like, being loud, confident, assertive... we label them as "bossy" or "competitors". I hope this video inspires you to intentionally uplift other women.
also AS YOU CAN SEE I've fallen in love with content experimentation in the last few months 🥺
Thank you for being so supportive!! Enjoy this chat about internalised misogyny, insecurity and motivational hype up chat. My knowledge on this is still very surface level, but I'm learning.

Casual Magic of the Day: oh my gosh. MAGIC. Last night I ventured to London for dinner with my beloved manager Mama Rach. After our meal, we were walking back to the train station when we stumbled upon none other than Jack Edwards and Luke Birch, two KZbin friends that I never get to see! Luke doesn't even live in London. This spontaneous meeting at 9:23pm on a Wednesday night in Soho led to an hour and a half pub catch up with old friends. Truly magical. (go read my IG post for the full story!)
Song I'm enjoying: Balance Ton Quoi by Angèle. It's relevant to this video, go listen to it.
What are YOU grateful for today?
FAQ:
How old are you? ~ 20 (woah, what!! i feel old, sigh)

a small thing that i saw in a post once that i feel just furthers the internalized misogyny: in tales, girls are pretty much all alone. we hear about boys and their brothers in arms, they drink together, soldiers, in stories they are a brotherhood of kick-butt people. but girls are all alone. like cinderella, it's literally better to talk to mice than another girl cuz she'll steal ur glass slipper. i cant think of a single story where women go and do something epic together like *sisters in arms* it kinda reminds me something from the grapes of wrath which i think meant that if you convince these people they are alone in their struggles you can make them hate each other and i think that's what's being done with girls

@gonootropics that is not only sexist but plain wrong. Evolutionary perspective is exactly the opposite. While men are competing for access to females females rear tribes offspring together. I see it, I see it, I see it. But this is for the girls who have been ice-heartedly stepped over by another girl. She came, took your happiness, smiled and left. You hate her. That’s ok. You are allowed to hate people that have done you wrong. You don’t need to question it, you are not jealous. You are rightfully angry at a shit person.

6:22 That's why I love I and best friend's relationship. Back when we were in the same secondary school, we were the geniuses who would carry all the awards. I remember the day she was a new student and she first came in. This male maths teacher came up to me and said and I quote "Better make her your enemy, she's good in maths and will probably take your first position away." I was actually confused and I remember thinking "but that's a good thing she can teach me maths and we can like help and have some healthy competition." Anyway long story short we became besties and were known as those bad ass bitches. Even today we still so supportive and we both have first class degrees in our first year😂😂😂. When we're jealous of someone, it's usually only because of one aspect of their life that we want for ourselves. It's important to recognize that people have depth and no one is perfect, and even if they seem like it you don't know what's going on behind closed doors.

Jade, I have to be honest with you. The girl that I imagined when I closed my eyes, to be envious of, was you. I have known since your first watched video, that your channel, your content and your personality would be the exact uplifting and motivating content I need on my youtube feed, sort of like the healthy greens of content consumption. When I saw your video of taking a gap year, going on those adventures, it put me off, because I couldn't. When I saw your college application and admission at Minerva, that was a super let down for me, cause the moment I came to know about the existence of a course like this, my ideal dream college course and experience, I was already done with 2/3rd of my college life. Of course, we can't be compared. Coming from a developing nation, these ideas are not so common for us, although not impossible, even though that doesn't stop me from wanting them. But I discovered them just a little later than when I should have. This comment is probably going to be the weirdest one, but it's the truth. I don't expect you to understand all of this, cause it probably sounds stupid. I may have made peace with my life and what it is, instead of what it could be ( but not letting my ambitions for the future waiver). but I want you to know, that I regret thinking that way, about you, and I am sorry that the way you expected your videos to make people feel, well, one of the viewers felt the exact opposite. I now know it reflects my insecurity of not having the same chances or life, but I know I have a life ahead of me to make it as adventurous and magical as I want to, without feeling envious of those who got there before me, for those who had better opportunities than me, or for those who worked hard for it. I could learn from people like you, and I don't know about lifting you up, but I could at least uplift me, and maybe another stranger in need someday.

When I was younger, I was jealous of women who I perceived were more attractive and more popular than me. Now, in my mid 20s during a crucial time of my career, I only feel jealous of women who I perceive are successful, outspoken, getting recognition and achieving more. I literally don't give a shit about appearances anymore. I force myself to examine that there are patterns in my life - these people aren't inherently better than me - they just show up what I'm feeling insecure about at the particular phase I'm in in my life. It will pass. It's not useful to feel so down about yourself and others at such a young age. We have our whole lives to live still and we will all achieve good things in our own way.

I've experienced this personally. I had a few "friends" in high school and middle school who would lightly pick on me and bully me whenever they got the chance. Later on during college, though, they all of a sudden started sending me messages apologizing to me about how they treated me and confessing that they were simply jealous of how I looked, how smart I was, how I carried myself, etc. How classic...

After watching your “I haven’t shaved my leg for 3 years” I tried letting the hair grow and not care about it. But as soon as people came over to our house I went and shaved my legs as I would be embarrassed by the hair on them. But now I feel more confident with having hair on my legs and not caring, I remember a moment where o was in a large swing, I lifted my legs up and between the jeans and socks I could see my legs being hairy and I didn’t feel disgusted by it, I actually enjoyed looking at my legs and absolutely not caring! I feel so much more confident nowadays because ‘I don’t care’ about what other think of me, as long as I’m not harming anyone including myself.

I’ve always felt threatened when I thought another female was achieving more than me. This video was so enlightening, now I feel less isolated when I envy others so now I can spot when I am threatening my OWN success. It’s really as if the patriarchy wants to see us battle and ultimately fail due to our own self doubt and belittlement. It can completely destroy a day just from me comparing myself to another powerful woman. Thank you for sharing, I’ll remember next time that It’s more about working together than against.

My parents are Catholics and they're loving and caring. It all comes down to people and being a Christian doesn't make you crazy or abusive. Just wanted to clarify that since media likes to twist Christian beliefs where movies like The Nun and many other movies potrays the church as being posessed or something.

Actually, the girl I thought of, was a girl in middle school that used to make fun of me and treat me really bad in front of the class, with her friends. I was new to that school and I live far, so I had to take a bus. People from that place usually look down on people from my place, so they mostly treat us like shit. I know this is not related to your video, but I wanted to share

i feel like we’ve all met one girl who was “perfect” in every way and it made us feel inferior - it seems to be more personal when she’s somebody you’re familiar with! when i had everything going for me, i never thought about these things. then all of a sudden, mental health ravaged my confidence & social skills, and i found that i was lacking in so many areas of my life like i never had before. i ended up forming an unjustifiable dislike towards another girl at my school. :-( but hey, i’m still working on myself and we live and we learn! thanks for the video jade
