This video is dedicated to all my uni students out there! Academics can be tough. The stress of it all almost detaches you from why you first chose your subject, or why learning is meant to be fun. This video is a real-talk glimpse of the side we romanticise less. Enjoy! And, if you're stressed about academic workload right now, you've got this. You're doing enough. Don't deviate from the priority systems in your life which make you your best self: mental health, physical health, loved ones, self love. Go smash it!! 🦋

If a university makes you do so much work that you're at the point of breaking it's not actually a good thing. Sometimes you make it seem like you're glad that the uni is making you crazy overworked because it means you're ~learning~. But most people would have learnt in a more chill environment too or even better and their mental health wouldn't suffer.
@zahrash78644 жыл бұрын
No uni understand this :))))
@cathrynrosalie12894 жыл бұрын
It is relatable watching you like this; but looking at this from an observer's perspective I also come to realise that this should not be normal. This does not HELP anyone. I know you said that teaching yourself like in the model of your uni is good; but we do not actually have the brain capacity to remember more than a fraction of so much information. If your uni syllabus conssitently requires more than 8hrs/day and 40hrs/week of work from you, it is too much. Unfortunately, all uni courses do.
@deusexmachina97764 жыл бұрын
Hey. I said something similar. I think with STEM courses there can be an exception- because of the field - but this is an arts or economics degree - the ones who are mocked in other universities for having it easy.
@letskillbunny4 жыл бұрын
yes it shouldn't be normal to *have* to stay up till midnight and constantly cram our brains so we don't fall behind. how did this become the accepted way to live our lives? how can uni's act surprised when students have breakdowns?
@LL-wu5ui4 жыл бұрын
@@deusexmachina9776 If this is what's like for her, then you can only imagine how much worse it is for STEM students. No one "has it easy". You have to study for primary school too. It's just when you compare the universities, some definitely have it easier/harder.

As someone who graduated from Cambridge in 2020 and now has a job: this is a toxic environment. When university work makes it impossible to take time off to relax there is a problem. I was so chronically stressed at Cambridge - because it's set up to make even top students stressed and I have hearing loss so listening so intently all the time really took it out of me. And even though I took the whole summer off I didn't feel fully recharged when I started my new job in OCTOBER. But honestly working 9-5 rather than constantly is a revelation - I still need therapy to properly process what uni did to me but at least i have evenings and weekends to myself. Please please talk to your uni about this ridiculous workload. If you're struggling, it must be impossible for disabled students like me who are expected to throw ourselves under the bus for a degree!

As I have an arts and humanities background, this means that I'm currently studying hard to get a maths and biology qualification to get into uni (hopefully in a couple of years!). It feels so strange to be studying gcse's again, and in a way I'm worried I've gone backwards. But at the end of the day, I'm propelling myself forwards, wherever I end up! It's never too late for a new path. I got my degree in history 5 years ago, worked in the museum sector for a few years, then as an office administrator for a charity. I understand this 💯 ... I am also a sophomore, and this online sem has honestly made me have so much more respect for uni s like Minerva which are 'online schools' ... Because it is damn rigorous... But I m sooooo happy today... Yesterday was the end of 2 months of our classes and we have 8 days of vacay ... And I submitted my last assignment this morning and was crying off happiness, not so much with exhaustion as it was of this rut ... Of doing the same thing everyday... I started reading Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine, it's been atleast 2.5 months from the last time I read fiction ... The point is with contact studies, I never felt this overwhelmed because I could channel that emotion into sports and other extra curriculars... But at home ... Well, well, well... But this struggle has also taught me a lot, how to manage my time better and basically what not to do ... I am excited for the upcoming 1 week and then the last 1.5 months of my 3rd sem ... Am looking forward to doing some fun independent study this winter !!

I have just one deadline for this friday morning and it is just a draft version but we want to be as far as possible (its a group project) so I have been behind my laptop for the last 2 days and just writing, writing, writing. But we are getting there! This video defenately came in the right time! I am really inspired to see the positive now so thankyou Jade! ❤

I'm a business analytics master students, for me, we have one course each two weeks, during the two weeks we will generally have a final exam, two quizzes, a paper and team project. We don't actually have semesters, we have packs a total of 6 packs + final year project and each pack has around 5 courses, we get our CGPA at the end of each pack. At first, it felt strange but I have really come around to enjoy how it works. Like, I have two weeks to concentrate and assimilate only one course and later on, we move to the next course.

i really want to know how Minerva students whose first language isn’t english cope with the work!
@ilovedumplings1234 жыл бұрын
There‘s sooo many people studying in another language than their native language (e.g. my entire master‘s is in English but my native language is German) - once you‘re at a certain English level it‘s really not hard, and you start thinking in English and actually begin to struggle with your native language sometimes 😂 sometimes people obviously need to translate stuff to understand everything, but I feel like our generation is so good at English because we get so much exposure that it‘s not actually that big of a deal :)

In Australia they do it cope..BUT they pay 100k per degree..so the lack of competence is ignored. However domestic students get marked so much harder.. Very unfair system in AU

Honestly this looks unhealthy to me, I don't think it's right that they force you to literally work all day :/
@koritsi21424 жыл бұрын
Ikr! Especially bc the vast majority of uni students need a part time job as well to get by. Uni should allow for you to do that and not require more work than a full time job
@amaliebullen67104 жыл бұрын
@@koritsi2142 Lots of unis offer part time study, which is usually half the workload but obviously it would take longer to graduate. I don't know if that's offered at Minerva though!
@koritsi21424 жыл бұрын
@@amaliebullen6710 yeah I know some people who are part-time students, but they usually work full time. At least where I live the understanding is that even as a full time student, you should be able to work at least a few hours a week (otherwise we would all be even more broke lol). From what I see in Jade's vlogs, the workload at Minerva is wayyyy above the normal level

Hey Jade 🦋 thanks for your honest way!! It is so good to hear that I am not alone with my stress and worries about my studies. You are so inspiring and I also love that you are currently lecturing on neuroscience, because that is a direction I might want to take in my master's degree after my biotech bachelor. And there are almost no youtubers who talk about such scientific programs, so please get on with that! 😁🥰
