Substituted the Fram XG3614 filter. It’s much easier to find! Here’s the Amazon link amzn.to/3JqpcLW

You are checking the oil level wrong. You are supposed to insert the dipstick into its hole until it bottoms out but DO NOT SCREW THE DIPSTICK IN. See page 13 of the Kawasaki engine owners manual.

You can buy the Kawasaki oil filters from Home Depot or buy online. Fram filters are crap, for your car or your lawnmower.

Good video. My lawn mower dealer tells me that they see 20 year mowers with many hours come in all time that "have never seen a drop of synthetic oil". Those cup socket style wrenches work work real well. I suck the oil out with an extractor. It's quick with a lot less mess and clean up. After the oil is sucked our I loosen the drain plug/petcock and most of the time I don't even get a dribble of oil coming out.

Watching this oil change on his mower makes me want to go out to my garage and give my Cub Cadet ZT2 a big hug. Changing the oil on the ZT1 and ZT2 mowers is crazy easy due to the open frame design. I love that!

Sir, thank you for the video. It was very helpful. However, the dip stick says do not screw it in when checking the level

1. CLEAN that oil off the lip under the filter.. If you leave it full of oil, it will be caked with dirt next time.. 2. Even the "cup" type oil filter wrench, that slips over the end of the filter, will not work on most of the new filters.. They won't fit between the filter and that LIP.. the "Longer" filter will facilitate you using the cup type filter wrench.. but make sure it fits the filter before you install, not all filters will fit in that cup.. 3) AFTER I drain the oil, I pour in a little Marvel Mystery Oil, until the drips, that come out of the hose, turns red.. that way you know you got all the old oil out.. THEN, I pour a little Marvel Mystery Oil into the new filter before I install it.. Marvel Mystery Oil is a great detergent, and it will circulate through the engine with the new oil, and clean out all the old oil bringing it back to be captured in the filter.. Good stuff.

This is the best video I’ve found on this subject. I have the exact same mower 60”. I use it for commercial use. I’ve been throwing so much money on my exmark lazer 60” and I got fed up. So I bought this mower brand new and I’m gone keep the maintenance up myself. From my understanding we change the oil first 8hrs? 🙄 well I’m at 11hrs now so it’s time to try this😁 thanks for the info👍 I watched this video in its entirety, I a KZbinr myself. I fly drones and cut grass😁

Thank you for the kind words! I recommend changing your oil soon. Next time I will change to full synthetic oil.

I have one of these mowers with the same Kawasaki engine. I found out that to make the removal of the oil filter easier, it is best to remove the plastic oil filler mechanism ( only one screw holds it on), and then the oil filter has much better access to put a wrench on it and remove it.

Just FYI, if you watch several of the videos on this oil change, many say a 1/2" ID hose for the drain nipple. 1/2" isn't even close. You need a 5/8" ID hose.

The plastic drain nut unit really sucks, super messy if, not careful. Going to replace the cheap plastic drain with brass assembly. Also if you remove the right side plastic assembly and throttle cover much more accssess to filter and drain. Little bit of extra work but well worth it.

Plus, make sure that the old filter gasket came off with the old filter. If it didn't and you didn't check. you'll end up with a double gasket and the oil could possibly leak out and damage your engine.

Be very careful not to tighten the oil drain plug too tight. It's only made out of plastic and can break easily if tightened too much.

If your 691V is like mine your not suppose to screw in oil cap to get an accurate reading, your suppose to just set on and if needed turn left until cap drops down but do not tighten to check level. Also if that supertech is high mileage that not a good idea to swell motor oil seals unless motor is already leaking. Also hope that oil is high zinc as kawasaki recomended atleast 1100 PPM zinc since that motor is a flat tappet cam design. Also for my 2014 691V the manual says 10W30 , 10W40 is ok to use but I happen to call kawi the other day and there was a revision to my manual were as the are not recommending 10W30 anymore but rather 10W40 for cooler climates and 20w50 for hot climates which is not even mentioned in my 2014 owners manual , luckily I live in a cooler state and chose to run 10w40 since new.

I was going to say the same thing about the oil stick. If you read the stick it says right on it not to screw it in

I use pig mats to collect oil that drains from the oil filter during removal.

I don't like the oil filter wrench that you used to remove the filter because it tends to crush the filter. The first filter you tried to use was better, but you must first remove that plastic filler to get proper access to the filter. My first filter change was as difficult as yours.

You only set the dip stick in on Kawasaki Engines when checking the oil you don’t screw it down like you do on other engines

On my Raptor X the lip on the engine mount plate turns up, not down as in your video. Stupid engineering if you ask me. Drain hose pointing up hill. Ended up getting oil all over everything. Went to Lowes and found some super flexible 1/2” corrugated hose on some irrigation system fittings. Now I can do a u-turn with the hose and out thru a hole in the engine mount plate.

1.8L (61 US fl oz) WITHOUT filter change. 2.1L (71 US fl oz) WITH filter change. Those numbers are with the original sized filter, if you use a larger filter it will need a touch more oil. I have the same motor on my Cub Cadet RZT54.
