In This HVACR Training Video, I go over The Process of Preparing and Brazing in an Evaporator Coil from Start to Finish. I show the flowing of Nitrogen, How to Shield the TXV and Bulb from Heat, and What Pressure to Test the Coil up to. Supervision is needed by a licensed HVACR Tech while doing this as Experience and Apprenticeship garners Wisdom and Safety.

Great instruction all around !!!! school really stresses the importance of removing that bulb before brazing.. If it’s not removable as noted wouldn’t it be better to make the bulb removable..preventative measures just in case..also does it matter if we worked the brazing from the bulb out to dissipate the heat fr the bulb a little more. Thx again your work is impeccable. Awesome to watch.

I would attempt repair because coil is all copper and rest of unit is in excellent working condition it’s that the coil is I believe discontinued. Thank you again excellent tutorial

it seems like the torch head just bakes the copper before you can do anything. if you use a tip or rosebud you can just put the braising rod right into the copper without baking it red left and right and all round. but the job was fine and fast.

Nice video! I have a question why aren’t you using oxy/acet torch here and what’s the difference with the torch in this video?! Thanks
@acservicetechchannel
@acservicetechchannel 4 жыл бұрын
You can choose to use either an oxy-acet torch or an air-acet torch. Either one will get to the right temp for residential light commercial systems up to 1 1/8" vapor line. If there is a lot of wind and you can't block it on a roof top then yes an oxy-acet torch would be better in that instance, thanks!

Thank you for another practical video. I was surprise how close you can braze to the bulb especially with the nitrogen flowing towards the bulb. I know you had a wet rag. Did the bulb get hot at all ? I have no practical experience with air conditioning work yet but have brazed a good few copper water pipes. What is the hottest you could let the bulb get without risk of damage to TXV valve. Thanks Michael
@acservicetechchannel
@acservicetechchannel 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Michael, well the joint has to get to 1350 degrees in order to melt the rod so it was a little hotter than that. That was a large rag soaked in cold water and I got in and out as fast as I could. I am sure there are a lot of people that just braze without thinking of protecting the bulb and then the service tech is left with trying to clean the problem up. You just don't want to have the txv be jammed or stuck when it is done. The bulb was more than warm but it was not that hot once I got my hand on it after taking the wet rag off. I did not take a temp reading and I usually disconnect the bulb from the suction line, thanks

Hey Bernie, Joe is right, I had that problem of the pressure lowering before I was done back before I had a flow meter. I also had a leak when brazing once by accidentally having too much nitrogen going through while trying to flow without a flow regulator. It was just a pin hole. I was on top of a commercial fishing boat and the only thing I forgot was the flow regulator. I said, ehh, I will just try it with the nitrogen being lowered by my manifold gauge set. Ha ha, I went and got it after that.

Filter drier question- I had an old r-22 2 ton replaced with a 410a 2.5 ton, the tech left the old filter drier (on the outside unit on the liquid line). I know the new unit has a filter drier located in the condeu unit........ Can the old filter drier cause damage ?? If so how ?

@acservicetechchannel
@acservicetechchannel 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Oscar and Joe, I usually teach the pressure testing for ac and heat pumps at the same time. That is why I said 350psi. If it were a heat pump, it would need to be checked at a higher pressure. Joe is correct that you could test it at a lower pressure if it is ac only like in the video. You could test it at the highest standing pressure that it could see for the specific refrigerant you are using. For some, that would be 95 degrees, for others that could be 130 degrees. I haven't had nitrogen go back into the system though. I always wait and watch if the pressure rises after pumping down and I am sure you both do as well. Great additions! Thanks both of you!
