Besides watching Ulises Polacios' cool cut-up compressor videos, I had to know what was inside an hvac scroll compressor. So I went out and bought an angle grinder and began cutting into my first compressor.

I know this video is 3 yrs old, but you did a great job trying to show the best way of taking a scroll apart. Thanks for leaving the oil inside, I didn't realize what a scroll with oil at the bottom looked like or where the oil level might be at at the bottom of the housing, the level is higher than I thought it might be. Thank you for taking the time to post this video.

looked like oil starvation/contamination and possibly liquid ref. washing out possibly cap went way low and it ran backwards extended or fan quit and cooked itself for ages 100% sure copper smearing from the killed bearings all over the place ;)

I assumed single phase, but if three phase, wired wrong and running backwards will do it of course..
