*First I show how I verified that I can use the furnace EAC control signal to control the HVAC Booster.
*Next I show how I used a temperature controller to easily do the job. This will probably be temporary, as I prefer to use the furnace EAC signal.

When I installed my duct booster I did a very similar way to your EAC control signal. I used a Functional Devices RIB RIBU1C. I wired the Comm (Wht/Yel) to the Common of 24 Vac transformer (Black or Blue) on the board and the 10-30 Vac/dc (Wht/Blu) to the Fan relay (Green) on the board. I put a 3 Amp fuse in line on the green wire just to be safe. Than wired the fan to the Comm (Yel) of the relay and N/O (Org) of the relay. This way when the T-stat calls for fan the duct booster is ON.

There's definitely more than one way to get it done. And that looks like a good relay to use, and another workable solution. Also not too expensive. Thank you for sharing that information!

Thank you for the lead. I purchased a Functional Devices RIB2401D. It's the same as the one you used, except it's DPDT. I installed it today and it's working fine! I'll be posting a new video soon.

Why connect the duct blower to the heating plug instead of the cooling plug for the temp controller?
@manabouthome
@manabouthome 4 ай бұрын
Good question. The temperature controller is set to heating mode, so when it senses cold air in the duct, it turns its heating output ON. It senses cold, so it turns on to try to heat it up, which it can't actually do. Then after the AC shuts down, and it warms up enough inside the duct, the controller thinks it warmed up to the temperature setpoint, so it turns the output (fan) off. Thanks for watching!

I'm missing the point to bypass the household fan. Can they not be wired to work together on a simple terminal?

The Temp Controller was a quick and easy way to get up and running. Basically, anyone could do it this way. It worked fine, but with an inconvenient quirk of having to reconfigure it for heating season. Part 3 shows how I did a relay control off the furnace EAC signal.

I have so many projects I need to work on, I haven't done the next part of this one yet. If you want to check out the comments on the first video, someone said this can be done with the blower high speed signal. So, I'm going to look into that option as well. I'll get back to it in time. Right now, I have car problems I have to work on. Sorry for the delay. Thank you for watching and commenting!

How do you use the booster for heating, if your controller has only 1 setting?
@manabouthome
@manabouthome 3 жыл бұрын
If I were to keep using the temperature controller for this purpose, I have two options. Option 1 is to simply turn it off during heating season. There's no problem getting enough heat up to the second floor, since heat naturally rises. Option 2 is to change the configuration by using the cooling receptacle in the controller, setting it up to try to cool the sensor by running the blower. However, I'm not going to be using the temperature controller. I just finished converting the Duct Booster control to a relay that's controlled by the furnace EAC signal. So when the furnace blower runs, the Duct Booster runs. I'll be posting a new video on that soon. Thank you for watching and commenting.

It was a good idea. However your only reducing the airflow to other rooms in the house. The furnace will only produce so much CFM. You are just pulling more of that to the one bedroom.

If the furnace was sized (and configured) correctly, it will provide all the air flow the house needs. I have to consider that the bedroom was included in the original sizing. The booster speed is set to cool the room and no more. It's only pulling the air that would have flowed through the ductwork if it was designed to function properly in the first place. It's been operational for a year, and the house is cooling just fine! Thank you for watching!

All you needed was a pressure sensor. 🤦‍♂️. Ac infinity should include one like most duct booster fans. They annoy me. They have a decent fan controller though.

I'm not using the temp controller now. I've installed a relay to control the booster with the EAC signal. A video will be posted. I like the relay because it gives me a spare set of contacts for future use ...I'm considering a UV light. Thanks for the comments and information. A pressure sensor is worth investigating.

AC infinity products are (or were) primarily marketed/designed for ventilating A/V cabinets, home server rooms, etc. It's no surprise they don't include HVAC-oriented features.
