I had a similar motor in my outside fan go out. TRANE said I had to replace it with that varriable speed motor with the bell end electronics. The motor only operates at 1 speed ! Another place said the same. I went to a contractors supply store and told them what I wanted and bought a standard motor with a small board and 3-4 years later it is still running fine. Saved a whiole lot of money doing this and is the same efficiency. A Trane mechanic (?) was sent over by my landlord (mom with out asking. Knew nothing and twiddled his thumbs for a while and left. He sent her a bill and stated I had messed up the wiring THAT WAS INCORRECT AND HE HAD NO IDEA ABOUT THE WIRES AND DID NOT TOUCH ONE OR HAVE A PRINT ! Sears said I needed a new washing machine motor that was not running from 2 repair places . I got to it and noticed it had a start capacitor replaced it for the price of 6 dollars and it is still cleaning years later. Them coming and replacing the motor or even coming cost $$$

Surge protect and get rid of zone if you can and use cheap filters changed often

AWSOME! This is a prime example of modifications that can be done in the field. Do you have any relays modifications videos similar to this?

EMC. Born to break which is sticker shock after that 10 year warranty.

So basically, ECM motors are garbage for furnaces. I have a Goodman 2010 2 stage multi-speed 5ton(2000 CFM) PSC 90k BTU 80%. I’m looking for a replacement goodman and I do not want one with the ECM. What about the current ones that are variable speed? Are they ECM? Can you find a PSC variable speed motor? My furnace is still working perfectly fine but I want to prepare for when it’s time to replace. I want to replace it with the exact same furnace and it’s hard to find so I want to buy one now and store it. Which Goodman do you recommend? I could go down to 80k BTU, I don’t wanna deal with five burners I’d rather have 4.

My Genteq x13 blower module failed yesterday. So I’m either looking at replacing+reprogramming the new module or converting to a PSC Motor. I’ve already verified 24V signals from thermostat fan call, 240V present at fan motor. Also motor Ohm’d out good. So this will probably be the route I’ll take. Lightning also hit my house a few times over the last months. So..... anyway, Nice video. Thanks.

Can u convert the blower motor on a airtemp v7re 036 package a/c unit to a psc motor it has an ecm motor in it from the factory

Is there any advantage going from a variable speed to a PSC motor? I'm having a brand new system installed in my home and my HVAC guy is setting me up with a new Hydronic Air Handler that has a PSC motor (can be bought with a variable speed motor). Just wanted to make sure im getting a good one.

What type of zone system is that, seems to cover all areas of concern... Temperature, static pressure, opening zone to relieve , pressure & temp... I would like to check it out, do you use or recommend it...?

Where do get the plumbing strap that you use to mount the capacitors? The ones I find around here are a very heavy gauge, you were able to cut yours easily.

I'm replacing my blower motor in my Air Handler. The new motor is also a 220v but it has a white wire and the old does not. where does the white wire connect to?Thanks

Great video This video reminded me of my first summer as a service tech and my head service tech showed me how to change from true variable speed to psc and it blew my mind. I was so green. Kinda makes me laugh at how much I didn't know. Thanks for the video

Great vid. Been thru 2 -2.3’s and finally put a psc and contractor in but left the choke and cnt03600. After seeing this I’d like to pull that stuff out and do as you did. Do you have a diagram handy? Inside is a twe065 with strips and an xl19i out. I like the ramp but not the replacement cost. Thanks

The process would be different with a multi stage condenser.

Freaking amazing that you figured out how to do this!! I came across this video because for the second time in 2 years the $500 ecm module has failed on my furnace... I do believe that I figured out why it failed again (due to you dialog) my cold air return is kind of restricted. My main question is do you think that this conversion will work on a motor with a GE 3.0 module? My furnace is a Bryant 355mav 80k and it is a 1/2hp fan motor. I am just trying to decide if it is worth buying another $550 ecm module or if maybe I am better off replacing the furnace with a new one. Thank you!!

Wonder if static due to being zoned, brought on some of the issues?
@zacksintheshop8 жыл бұрын
I think it has to do with cold bypass air coming back and causing condensation inbthe module.
@CommonSenseFishing209 Жыл бұрын
That fan motor is going bad often due to high static pressure when the zones are not all open. True zoning requires modulating equipment and no zone can be smaller than 35 percent of total system load. Best if using mini splits to zone. Or combination ducted and ductless mini split to achieve true zoning. Be careful with pumps tho. I always gravity drain. The pumps go bad often.

did u size replacement by hp or amps?
@zacksintheshop8 жыл бұрын
I usually see what the manufacturer puts in its comparable PSC blower units. I think this one got a 3/4 because it is 4 tons. I don't go back ecm amps.

I have a similar unit outside on my bench. The module is foamed in so you can’t check the back. I suspect if you locate the screws under the foam it will come out. I’d like to see the back and check the capacitor. We changed out the variable fan for a single speed.
@CommonSenseFishing209 Жыл бұрын
The ground will do that if your motor shorts out. Thats what happened more likely than a lightning strike.
@robertj.23193 жыл бұрын
i could have replaced 3 of those modules in the time you took to record the video!

You know they make a surge protector for the ecm motors. I will not install an ecm motor without one!
@Imwright7204 жыл бұрын
Danny C I added a surge protector for the entire house. An electrician said it would solve the problem with led lights going out so soon. It should also help with a lot of other problems. 80% of surges are internal.

by the time you right down what you did and charge the homeowner for the motor, the relay board, the capacitor, the wiring changes you made, and the time it took to do it, you could have simply just replaced the motor module and saved yourself all the time and headache! I have replaced plenty of those modules, about an hour max, not worth all that time when the cost is relatively the same!
@zacksintheshop3 жыл бұрын
This motor/module had been replaced already. Maybe twice. I offered a more reliable solution. That is , of course, my opinion.
