This is the kind of knowledge that is SO rare now in our trade. Many people are just parts changers and couldn't tell you the underlying principles of something, or the sequence of events a board is performing. They just know to switch the wires to the same places and it should work. And half the time they screw that up. I Can't tell you how many newly replaced furnace boards I've found wired wrong. Anyway.... great video man. Showcases your level of knowledge and engineering. Well done!!

Hvac seems like a field where you have to know a little about many things. Electronics, Mechanical parts, and refrigeration. I’m not hvac, but been fascinated by it recently. Pros like the hacker are essential. Without them we’d be in a whole lot of trouble. Great video hacker! In a sense it field is very similar because sometimes you need to make things work with what you have. Not perfect but it keeps things moving. 👍

Most electronic repairs are very similar. Tracing what's defective and making sure power is getting to the loads
@leosthrivwithautism3 жыл бұрын
@@thehvachacker yes sir! I can only speak from computer perspective. But that applies too. Is the outlet supplying power. Is the power brick down stepping the power and is it making it to the laptop. If it is. Are the power supply components operating in the laptop. The thinking shares a lot of similarity. It’s why I can kind of understand your troubleshooting steps from the hvac side of things. I appreciate your videos man!

👍👍👍 this is how a good ethical repair man takes care of his customers and shows a higher level of skill set. The guys who do all the advertising with the big shiny vans with lots of stickers and under skilled employees and heavily weighted office staff personnel with tons of overhead would just force the customer to buy a whole new system. Because there’s no margin I have 1000% profit in repairing one single relay compared to selling an entire system. Excellent service to our trade more individuals need to follow this example

No need to use a universal board on an air handler. This repair is to keep unit going a few more years. Only thing the board did for this unit was to be an overpriced fan relay. I use universal boards when I need to. The supply house didn’t have another board to recommend. I figured a relay was better than universal board. Look at air handlers before boards were used. They all are wired similar to what I did here
@coldfinger459sub03 жыл бұрын
@Timothy Salomon it just a relay, ON/OFF no other function, Not bypassing any safety’s and the relay he used probably will last 10 years longer than the original. It got the customer heat now on the fast and cheap . The customer can relax take time to think about funds to buy the furnace later if money may be a issue instantly.

Use the board next time by isolating the relay which was the issue on the board. Pigtail of L1 to common for normally closed to energize on L1 on the fan. L2 pigtails to other leg of the fan. 24 v to energize the relay to complete the circuit for fan. Y and common straight from the board will energize relay and condenser. Tape wires from park if that makes you feel better. Great video just another option. I been there done that. Lots of ways to skin a cat easier.

Can you do a wiring diagram explaining what exaxtly you were doing here. It looked really interesting but i have no idea. I have seen a defrost board bypass on a heat pump but no contactor was needed. I understood that one completely on youtube.
@throttlebottle59063 жыл бұрын
I'm sure there was some generic replacement board that would have swapped right in. but since it didn't have heat strips or hydro-coil added, may as well do what you did and just toss in a relay to bring the fan on. only thing missing would be fan off delay at end of cycle and maybe an on delay, but that's not really an issue. :)
@tonyc31473 жыл бұрын
Can you post a drawn diagram on how you did that ? It was kinda hard to follow

EXACTLY why I carry DPDT 24V coil relays and 120V SPST relays too . They just WORK!! AND proof, many boards are NOT NECESSARY!!

Back in the day all you had was a relay to control the A/C so old school reliable....now if she needs heat, that’s another story.
@thehvachacker3 жыл бұрын
Yes but then you had a fan limit. G activated the fan or when the limit switch heated up enough fan would kick on. Many times I would hot wire the blower until I return with board. The local amana/ Goodman dealer said board no longer available. Ok let’s remove the over priced relay. That’s all this board did was turn on blower

How did you determine it was shorted at the board? I still struggle finding shorts from time to time.
@thehvachacker3 жыл бұрын
Line voltage shorts are easy to find. Burn marks. Low voltage just energize the board with only 24volts to board. If fuse blows then board is shorted. If it doesn't jump each terminal again each terminal seperate and each load.

I have you have a good picture of where all those wires go once you get the replacement board.
@thehvachacker3 жыл бұрын
It’s easy to rewire if needed. No replacement board is made for this system. Therefore this becomes a permanent repair. Yet if a board was available it’s just low voltage and a fan relay to wire in.
@jbpost523 жыл бұрын
@@thehvachacker I see just like when I would wire in a transformer and fan relay center. I have been spending a lot of time catching up, I last worked some twenty years ago for a oil burner firm for a short time till my knees gave out going under older homes crawel spaces. I dont recommend it for anyone. The new proceedures of evaculation and reclaiming were non existant when R12 and R22 were the common refrigerants when we used our gauges to evacuate , usually triple evacuation using the same refrigerant which would be used in the system. I did get my universal certification license before I switched carrers.
