troubleshooting this Trane hvac Rooftop unit / RTU / RTAC no cooling / no AC service call resolution , to replace both circuit entering and leaving evaporator thermistors / temperature sensors. evaporator entering / inlet / Txv outlet temperature sensors and evaporator outlet / suction line temperature sensors
unit ran fine after that!

I had :HIGH COMP DIFF PRESS CKT 2 on same Intellipack unit in North NJ .Leaving Evap temp 157 degrees . It was sensor in well on distributor tube in Evap. I replaced both sensors they are only like 18 dollars at Trane supply house . Replaced sensors & temp dropped to 51 degrees .

You are on the right path though. intellipaks do have supply and return air temp sensors most of the time especially if they are on BAS

Instead of crawling in there powered or not(I have crawled or stepped in those systems many times running), Could you have just ohm'd out the sensors back at the control boards? Once you know the tech on the sensors, then they should ohm out, if reading are out of range, easier to diagnose? Like your style of service. Well done.

Yes there is two low ambient fans on that unit, one for each set of compressors. Don’t forget to check the air filters.

That could be? But I had the same issue. And the reason why in my case it thought the system was short of refrigerant was because the unit logic is run by both the return and supply air sensors. So it was not shutting off the compressors due to the high reading of the discharge sensor so the compressor would run until it went off on low pressure. The only device that can give that board a low refrigerant reading is the low pressure or pipe temp sensors.

@Dimas lespier Agreed you are saying the same thing I discovered while troubleshooting, when the suction temperature is too high the system views it as high super heat which can be associated with lost of refrigerant charge! Thanks 🙏 for stopping by old sport

I don't usually comment on videos but I had to on this one. Whether you know what your doing or not you should shut the unit down defore entering over that belt. Accidents happen so safety first.

I have also found that there will be corrosion on these sensors that will cause them to insulate themselves. Just a little Emory cloth can get you out of a pinch

Trane uses 10k ohm resistors. They tend to have a chart in the manual. You could also google a 10k ohm resistor chart and reference the resistor to the ambient of the sensor space.that’s for any thermistor.

Check this bro. That red bird feeder on top of the unit should be angled at a 45 degree to prevent water from collecting inside of it eventually siphoning into the tubing back to the transducer.

This 100%! I would add the check should first be made at the control, and if OOR at control then checked at the sensor. While you're at the control, you should also check sensor input voltage to help eliminate a control board issue (That is my 1st check). This is IMO how a diagnostician finds the root cause, before ordering any parts, outside of that,... it's guessing. EDIT: the "it's guessing" comment is not fair. It is an "Educated Guess"

@@RJMaker SMH 🤦‍♀️ First of all for most of you if it had not being for videos like this on KZbin, if you were placed in a situation like this you wouldn’t know where to start, to say that it’s guessing that’s false because there were several steps taken prior to coming to the conclusion! Sensors or logic board and the sensors was the most viable option based on the troubleshooting process.

: The cooling circuit of interest has been active for 10 minutes and the difference in the entering and leaving evaporator temperatures has been greater than the Evaporator Temperature Differential Setpoint for 10 continuous minutes. He did it right. The MCM is good because it’s getting the readings and you know by the valve given one is not reading correctly. You can verify buy resistance but really no need. Good techs don’t always waste time going through all the steps in the troubleshooting process when they know which ones can be skipped.

@@globaltecnicianworldsbest3031 I'm not "most of you", and yes I'll give you it was an ** educated ** guess. My point is, in this case there is NO reason why you can't absolutely know what the problem is before ordering parts.
