When your recovery machine finishes, your supposed to turn the dial to self purge and it’ll recover the remaining refrigerant in the recovery machine. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Another nice video. Never had any luck with that style nitrogen regulator. Always used a bubble regulator, adjust it so the B B in glass would just barely float. Always gave perfect tiny flow, also saved nitrogen.

thanks for the vidoe.. when unsoldering coils i always cut the pipe below (towards the coil) then pull the old coil out then sweat off the copper .. much easier with plenty of room after the old coil is removed and you don’t have to fight pulling a pipe straight down

You might want to get you a captain hook tip for brazing tight spots like that. Makes it so much easier and you wouldn't have burned the insulation.

I’ve done a few of those coils to make it a little easier I found using a large ratchet clamp to lift up the top part of the unit and will give you more space to braze the suction line in but great stuff love watching all you vids and channel 🤙

Good job on that. We are a Trane dealer at the company I work at and we do quite a bit of these coils. I always found it easier to take all the screws from the condenser top and take a 2x4 and prop the top up.

I have had the same problem flowing nitrogen with my uniweld purge tool doing an evap coil I go thru my Sman480 and had to turn down my flow lower or close to off just to seal the rest of the system because I’ll get nitrogen pushing my weld open when brazing I’ll see a blue flame coming out the side of my weld think the 5 flow is a little too much maybe half is a good point great work diagnosed a bad reversing valve solenoid on a trane yesterday it was grounded and it blew my new transformer I put in

What works for me is I take my tin snips and cut off right above txv and use pipe cutters for suction line the I unsweat the stubs out. I sometimes remove the blower and braze from that side if need be. Also a picture pipe to prop up the condenser can help. Also you subcontinent is showing high because you were on the discharge port. The port above the compressor would give you a better reading. Good job

Best way to get that cool out I to prop the top up with a 2x4, helps tremendously in that tight spot. I'm really surprised you were able to do that without.

Your coil had an easier time coming out after unbrazing it. I changed one out last year on same style unit. Had to wedge a piece of wood against the ground to widen the cabinet to pull it out. Great job!

@hvacguy I've done 30 of those coils this summer use a 2x4 and cut it slightly bigger than the space inside the coil panel and lift it up. I believe it's 22.25" I can't remember I've used the same one forever but it will prop it up so you can hit your suction top joint with out burning the insulation and for sliding the old one out and the new one in. Hope this helps

I really have come to like your videos a lot. I know how nasty the southern heat and humidity can get. I don't want to be critical, but you never clean your copper before soldering or brazing. Your torch flame is (without being an ass) hideous. Bad flame shape and all splayed out. You seem to wave the flame all over the place and "push" your filler into place. It really should just flow. And it really does if the fittings are clean (old and new), and the torch is clean and regs are adjusted right. I just don't see any inner cone or feather at all when you braze. And the joints are all blobbed up. Flow man, flow! Do they leak when you're done? Nope. Of course not. Chris from HVACR VIDEOS just does it right every time. You are dedicated and do great work and have awesome troubleshooting skills. Keep Cool!

I always just change the package unit out. Not worth trying to find a coil these days. Either out of stock or outrageous price. Tried to get one for a 12.5 ton Voyager few months ago. $9950 list price. Not including the TXV's or the header, so would have been a ton of brazing. Nothing in stock nationwide, so just ended up replacing with a 13 ton Lennox. Much easier than replacing a coil. On larger rooftop units, you're going to need a crane even for just the evap coil, shipping weight was 1650 lbs, so you're not packing that up a ladder. Customer didn't want to spend that kind of money on an 11 year old unit, plus the 3 exhaust ports were crying rust, so the heat exchanger was probably on its way out too. Small package units on the ground like this are easier to just change the evap in, because then you don't need to redo all the ductwork, and flashing to the house etc.

Don't need nitrogen unless its a big system with tons of braze joints. Filter drier will catch any flakes. POE oil makes for a great detergent so system is self cleaning :D

Look for the tell tale greasy compressor oil residue in the drain pan sometimes is a dead giveaway. Otherwise, do a leak search but do a visual check for anything oily. 9/10 that's where a leak is, there'll be a greasy spot.
