25 year Generac tech here... any time you have a hard / no start and you are over 100 hours of run time you should adjust the valves and install new plugs. On sets with a few years on them I gap plugs at 0.025 to make sure a weak coil will get spark to the cylinders. I also suspect the mouse crap may have caused that choke flap to hang up.... or the tight valves just didn't give enough manifold vacuum to open the demand regulator on the gas. That said, the low voltage fault was a year ago so not worth chasing down. Probably ice on the brushes that cleared after 30 seconds of run time. (long enough to fault but you can't duplicate it) You should double check for mouse entry points as those sets are really tight from the factory. Either the door was not properly seated or the rubber gasket on the fuel line needs to be caulked. (very common) BTW, resting battery voltage over 14 is usually a sulphated battery, which means it doesn't have full capacity. The battery is also 10 years old. The sticker is June of 2012 mfgr date. Oh, with a little wiggling you can put the battery in with the positive terminal forward.

F2 should indicate Month/Year it was palletized to be shipped to retailer. They don't expect 10 year shelf life so they only use one digit for the year. So that battery is either a June 2022 or a 2012 battery. And well...since this was filmed Feb 2022....I'm rather impressed that battery has lasted that long at all.
@rupe532 жыл бұрын
the high residual voltage on the battery also suggests it's sulphated so capacity is down. BTW, good catch on the sticker date because the video was Feb 2022 and that's not a new battery!

I installed my battery inside my heated/cooledoff grid power shed, extended cables 4’ with 2 ga. I have a shed roof with wall on intake side to protect from weather and make repairs, servicing more comfortable.

Yoou should take an amp draw on the compressor too. If a running compressor goes from not pumping to pumping it was running backwards. That was the problem. I put a time delay on the unit and it stop the compressor from getting get a fast on off on which was never found where it was coming from. Running backward never happened again.

Wow the new ones are much improved. But . . . I have a 22Kw 1.5 years old. Note for service guys. I had a no start on exercise warning. Low RPM's and it was locked out. I reset it and after a couple try's I got it going. They have a bulletin to change out the starter if it's in a hot climate (So. Fl.). It was making a strange noise like the solenoid was clunking. Hasn't acted up since. Everything now is on an app. The old remote thing is something else.

Shouldn't you have a coarse screen on the carb air intake to prevent mice/bugs from getting in the filter?

I know we run 3/4 gas line to genaraters and tankless water heater if I get a call on one and it has 1/2 gas pipe we won't work on it because alot of times it can't keep up the gas pressure

All dependent upon the total load of BTUs and the length of the pipe. But for the most part yeah, you're correct.

On a different video, you stuck two fingers down the intake to get it to start..how did that cause it to start?
@HVACRSurvival2 жыл бұрын
The intake stroke causes the diaphragm to open up on the fuel regulator, when you stick your fingers in there it causes it to pull maximum fuel into the carburetor. Generally those fuel regulators were defective and would harden and not open and close like they should. Those old machines didn't used to have choke, even the ones that did didn't work for the crap.

I suspect that the scroll compressor was running backwards, a quick power cycle can cause that. Is that geothermal powered off the generator by chance?

The generator has about a 10-second delay before it starts. I suspect anything's possible but I didn't hear any loud noises like it was running backwards

The battery warmer is useless, it only evaporates the electrolyte and battery only last 2 years instead of 5-7 sometimes 10 without. I work on about 2,000 generators a year and notice this. And they don’t even make that monitor anymore since about 8 years ago so I don’t think anyone will be selling them anymore.

It's about like the engine block heater they first came out with, that was total piece of shit, the oil filter thing seems to work half ass okay, both are overly priced.
@moondogdieselworks3883 Жыл бұрын
@@HVACRSurvival yep those were junk and fell off. The breather hose heater they try to sell is so hot it burns the hose to a crisp. Agreed on the oil heater for the filter, that’s not half ass bad.

I'm looking at trying to convince a customer to buy a dual fuel generator so I can use forklift propane cylinders to drive their warehouse wifi when the power goes out. Last week was an 11 hour day with me babysitting the server room, main generator going, waiting for the power company to fix the incoming supply. They ran for 6 hours with no warehouse wireless and I was getting flak for it.
@HVACRSurvival2 жыл бұрын
Why wouldn't they just set a propane tank or run natural gas?
@tbelding2 жыл бұрын
@@HVACRSurvival enormous sodding warehouse. They have PILES of tanks for the forklifts anyway, and one tank should give them at least 8 hours of runtime. No need for the additional expense for the once or twice a year it might be needed to run the warehouse wireless, network, and two computers.
@HVACRSurvival2 жыл бұрын
I just purchased a Generac GP3000i, it does 2300 watts continuously and 3000 peak , 3% THD 60hz even at low idle and I got over six and a half hours at 25% load from 1 gallon of gas. Might be something to consider if it's that small of a system load. Looks very promising so far.
@tbelding2 жыл бұрын
@@HVACRSurvival That's about the size I'm looking over. The other reason for propane is that they'll never drain the gas tank or clean the carburetor. When I find out about it, it'll be too late to address. Propane has no ethanol to screw things up, and they have a basic maintenance guy that can change oil, I'm sure.
@rupe532 жыл бұрын
just one problem.... forklift tanks are liquid draw and meant to be used laying on their side so can't be used in other applications requiring vapor LP. (IE: generator)
